Shocks/Struts
I have a 2006 Aveo with 71,000 miles, took it to the dealer today for an oil change and he told me I need both front and rear shocks, the evidence being that the rear tires are starting to "cup." He rotated them to the front but suggested that l also need to replace those tires. His estimate is $1100 just for the shocks and rotation, not counting the tires. I am wondering if cupped tires is enough evidence to spend all that money. Thanks.

Shocks and struts are not a hard DIY project. You'll need an alignment afterward. If you have no vibration in the steering wheel with the cupped tires up front, I would not be rushing out to buy tires. If you can't DIY, shop around. Independent shops are usually less pricey than dealerships.

There are not very many dealer fan club members on these forums. Ask the people you know which independent repair shop they prefer. Take your Aveo to the one that gets the best marks and ask for their opinion of that estimate.
