Need new front brakes
Hey it's time I get new brakes on my ride. I managed to get 90K plus out of original pads and rotors. I did a ton of driving and very little braking. Any advice on brands? I see a rebate offer from Autozone on Duralast/Brake Rotors provided I get the Duralast pads.
Is there anything any meater than OEM/stock?
Also a question for the Rabbit, any luck on a rear wheel conversion from drum to rotors?

At roughly 110,000 miles I did the front brakes on my Aveo, I got the pads from a GM dealership, I turned (resurfaced) the rotors, installed the GM pads, last week, I had to replace the right front wheel bearing, since I had everything off, I inspected the pads, at 145,000 miles ive still got 80% of the pads
Any luck installing the spoiler yet?

i'm working on the kit. my install is a little more extensive that you guys. As i dont have the offset allowances.

I don't know if this is hijacking or not, but I am curious.
Rabbit, if you kit has limited offset allowances will that make it better for us when U do get a kit working good on your car? I'm sure it has something to do with the height of your vehicle and/or width of your rims and tires. This is great food for thought, and the future of my project. I appreciate the education, but understand if you can't or don't have an answer to the question right away. Either way thanks for the work you put into R&D for us, and I look forward to your kits in the future.

Man, its too bad Rabbit and I are half the country apart!!
As for the OP. Go to your local parts store and buy one of their upper line pads. I've never had issue with aftermarket pads and I bet they are considerably cheaper.

the rear brake "kit" is going to push out your rear wheel a little bit, like 10-15mm final (need to assemble and measure). There is plenty of room to you guys to do that with most of the wheels you are running and your ride height you will have no issues what so ever.
I cannot push my wheels out another 10-15mm, the edge of the rim is already outside the body. So i need to cut my axle and weld. Which means taking the car off the road for a while as i have a bunch of other project cars i am working on for $ to do mine..
I dont want to just make and kit send it out without testing it on my car first, its the R&D of the project.

10-15 mm.... God damn thats impossible for me lol the tires are already rubbing the inner fender, you cant even fit a credit card between the tire and fender.
Guess it's drums all the way ;)
I would need to redo the entire suspension to raise the car to use this kit, im anxious to see how it turns out tho!

That's why I asked lol. Yeah, I want to put on some 16 inch rims but try to keep everything close to stock otherwise, just a better suspension. I might go a little lower, but have to be careful as the roads in iowa suck.
-
As long as your sticking with 7" wide rims in @ a 40mm offset the kit will work. Obviously tire sizes and rim offset ride height all matter, but when the kit is done I will have an exact amount.

Oh the roads suck around here too. I've been hung up in two intersections where you cross the other roads pavement (if that makes sense). He to get out and push the car off the crown of the other road, with it idling in first gear, the run to get back in.
I don't go that way anymore.
