Re: 17" Toro's on a 2009 Aveo5 LT
rabbit,
From what I can find, I think they are a 7.5" rim. I don't rub on turning, only when I take a corner a bit fast and the body leans or when I hit a dip and the shocks allow the body to come down.
Not too sure what the best option is to resolve this and not dramatically change my ride.
Thanks!
Re: 17" Toro's on a 2009 Aveo5 LT
Sorry for misinforming you... it's actually +40 mm offset for me... but the rest of the specs are the same: 17x7.5, 4x100 (not double-pattern)...
But if you tighten the suspension a bit with rabbit's coilovers and ultra racing sway/strut bars, the body roll should be greatly reduced. So even though it will be lowered, your car won't lean far enough to rub.
Re: 17" Toro's on a 2009 Aveo5 LT
Your rubbing at turns at speed, that's still rubbing.
Take a wheel off and look for the wear. I can refigure out your numbers but you are both about the Same specs within 2mm which isn't much.
First thing to check for where you are rubbing is to put you had through the wheel opening and see if the tire is close to the spring/strut. Do this with it on the ground. You don't need
much room as the move together. But if it is too goose they might rub.
Then Jack it up. Use the control arm if you want to raise the wheel into the well. But have Jack stands under the k frame to hold the front end off the ground. Turn the wheel full lock to lock see where it is close? That's probably a potential rub spot.
You have been rubbing though. So you can skip that and just look for the rub marks. Take the wheel off. Check the wheel well etc. For rub marks.
There are 3 places I rubbed on hard turns (autocross) with a 7.5 in rim and 40 mm offset. They were the pocket in the fender liner for the bumper bolts to the fender. It sticks out into the tire path. The second was on the back of the fender right about where the "gm" square is, I actually have a slight slight buckle in the fender from a particular sharp lef. On one of the courses. The third would be anywhere between those tow points with the tire turned and the car dipping far enough.
Re: 17" Toro's on a 2009 Aveo5 LT
im jealous i wanted something like that on my car.
Re: 17" Toro's on a 2009 Aveo5 LT
Oriontool, did you ever figure out what was rubbing?
Re: 17" Toro's on a 2009 Aveo5 LT
Nope! I have no idea. The fender wells look good and no paint is rubbing off on the fenders. I am thinking it may be (again, I am not too technical  ) the bottom of the shock mount or guard.
Gonna try again, but just not sure.
