      Stereo advice

      Hi all.

I don't know much about car stereos except that mine sucks and hope you all can give me some advice.

I put in new speakers, which didn't do much.
I need my trunk, so a subwoofer is out of the question. Someone suggested a bass tube. This sounds good to me. My question is, can I wire that to the factory radio, or do I need to get a whole new receiver?
Do I need an amp, or can it go directly to the stereo?

      Any info will be appreciated!
      Thanks in advance!

you should get a new deck, it makes a world of a difrense, just upgrade your speakers, and i would advice not to get the bass tube they suck, if you want bass get a 10" or 8" sub and put it in a sealed box that will be 0.75-0.60 qu ft (which is as much space as a bass tube would take up if not less) and you will be set, also since you want to save space by a small enclosure you should increase the power with a good amp. oh and if your going for a sub get something reputable and higher end. hope this helps and good luck

      Re: Stereo advice

If you get a nice set of midbass speakers then you should not need a subwoofer. And you should not have to get a new receiver. If it is not enough for you then you look to add an amp and power your speakers. You in essence will save your trunk and increase the sound quality of your system. PM me if you would like me to design something for you.

      Re: Stereo advice

I'd say first get a new radio. A good brand. Use it with your original speakers THEN after a little while check out amps and speakers. The new deck will make a world of difference. A stereo system is just that. A system! So, start with a good deck and later match everything to the deck.

I 100% dissagree with all posters, All I have is an 8" Bazooka tube in the hatch (that's removeable), set the CD player/MP3 player (factory one) to Jass and it's perfect. There is NO wiring to the factory CD player, a + wire to the battery and tie into the rear speakers for the high level in. Done.

      Wow.
So many differing thoughts on this.
I guess it's all trial and error.

I appreciate all the input from everyone

I'll keep you all posted on what I decide to do and how it turns out.

      I did pick up a receiver from Walmart (a Dual XDMR 7710 http://www.crutchfield.com/S-y0cH5x3e6i ... 070XDMR771 .
Turns out it's a discontinued model which explains why they have it). I'm thinking of returning it though. It has a motorized face; I'm concerned that if the motor goes on it I'm screwed.

I just want to be able to plug in my MP3 player. I'll be a happy woman at that point.

      Re: Stereo advice

How much did you buy it for. Is that the most you want to spend on a radio with MP3?

      Re: Stereo advice

You can also buy an FM modulator for the MP3 player, then you just tune into an un used FM radio station and there's your MP3's playing throught it.
