Im not to sure but i think the new ones have to be cut off and i think its easy to find out just boil the knob and peel off the covering and then you can find out. thats wat i had to do on an old eclipse of my buddies in my vocational class (auto mechanics). but im not to sure so ask around and pm so people like aveosam and exodus and workin_ike.
i hope this doesnt sound dumb...but how do i boil the knob when i dont know how to remove it?
do you mean the whole shifter?
i just want to know how to remove the shift knob so i can replace my shift boot and new knob
You have to remove the whole stick, dunk the knob in boiling water to soften the glue and pull to pull it off. For new knobs, you either have to have it super high up, or something compatible with the R lockout mechanism. Suzuki Canada sells a leather-wrapped or a aluminum-clad knob that fits.
Many European site also have compatible knobs. Just search for Lift-up reverse knobs
would this work??

Says it will. That's a pretty good looking knob
yeah the colors go perfect for what im doing with my interior
Says it's designed to work on threaded shift levers only, which ours are not.Quote:

with a tapping kit, meaning you make threads on the shaft. If you don't know how to do it (apparently not) any shop should be able to do it in under 5 minutes.
lol THIS IS CRAZY AMOUNT OF WORK FOR JUST A SHIFT KNOB
Agreed my automatic cressida was easier, attached a 16mm wrench with hose clamp as it's new shift 'knob' with no boiling. About to put a 5" led bubble shift knob on my aveo manual. Our bar is one really long bar too on these Aveos from what I seen at the wrecking yard so its even harder than it sounds in this thread.
