my clock and warning lights (CEL, door ajar, seatbelt, etc) were not working on my 2006 aveo - this is the center mounted panel "info center" up near the windshield.
I removed the clock and lights module and took it apart - the two internal PCB's had broken solder joints all over the place.
the pic shows but a few. re-solder all that are bad or questionable and you should be good to go!
(to be clear: the pic below shows just some of the bad solder joints)

What kinda solder you talking about? Like resolder like the picture? Like the studs? or? Cause im in the same boat and was on the verge of pay 60 bucks for a new clock! Please help me understand how to do this?! lol I can solder on a beginner level
OH THE SPACES? solder them back down? I think my bulbs are burnt out too /: Know how to fix those?
you don't really "solder them back down" - by soldering correctly, you fill the crack with solder - actually everything "comes together" with solder. google "cold solder joint" - also look online for beginner soldering tutorials. the "bulbs" are LED's - they are also fixed by resoldering the broken solder joints. i don't have a pic of the module taken apart but it is pretty simple. once you get the module out there are some tabs in back - pry those out of the way while pulling the back off and things will open up. inside you will find 2 circuit boards - fix ***EVERY*** bad solder joint (use a magnifying glass) you see, reassemble, and you should be good to go. you can test your work by plugging your module back into the connector you disconnected when you took your module out - i think the connector is 12 or 14 pins - something like that. turn your key to IGN (ON) and the module should light up. i cannot stress this enough: fix every bad solder joint or it probably won't work or just some of it will work (light up). hope that helps.Quote:

I bought a used clock module on eBay for $10 shipped. No solder gun to fuss with.
If mine ever dies again, I will most likely attempt this fix. I took the old one apart when I tossed it, but I actually didn't look that close at the solder joints. It most likely could have been fixed, but mine was $20 on eBay with free shipping. Oh well...
It did the annoying resets to 1:00 and would go off and on sometimes resetting to 1:00 and sometimes not. It liked to drove me bonkers...

Cold solder joints were a common problem in my old car, but instead of losing the clock, you lost the odometer and the tachometer!
The clock in my 09 Aveo 5 speed manual resets itself every time I turn the car off and it sits for a minute. Why is that?

My aveo '09 resets &/or doesn´t keep proper track of time (only when car not in function), did the dismount, cleaned inspected welded joits and re-attached...lasted only a couple of days.
Will do again under magnifying glass.

When you do the repair, make sure you have a hot soldering iron and get the solder nice and hot. Cold solder joints don't last for anything.

Last week, I started getting the clock resetting. So I performed the fix. Hopefully I got all the solder spots. If not, I'll give it another shot. But going solid for almost a week now. Thanks again ChevyCC.

Any idea if those indicator bulbs behind the clock are actually replaceable, and if so, what part number they are? My ABS Warning light bulb is actually missing, and I'm trying to figure out if I can simply replace it or if I need to replace the whole clock unit (Secondary Information Center). I added some vent holes to the back side of the clock because it looked as if the circuit boards got hot several times. Nine 1/8" holes near the hot area were simple to drill.
