Does anybody know if the Aveo 5 SVM without A/C has a cabin air filter? I read the manual and removed the glovebox and I'll be damned if I can find it. It looks like they all have one, maybe I am blind.

hey fellas i could have sworn that we discussed this previously and that it may be found in previous posts. i could be wrong however. i think this is it.

My '07 Aveo5 SVM with the optional provision for installing an a/c (but no actual a/c,) does have one, and the manual shows where and how to change it on page 155. After pulling the glovebox you unscrew the metal bar that goes across, then you can unsnap the filter and pull it out. I've pulled mine to vacuum up elm seeds that got sucked into the ventilation system and ended up rattling around against the filter. Perhaps the ones that don't have the a/c provisions don't have a filter?
Thanks Rotar, I found where to take it out in the manual, and got the glovebox out but did't see the filter. I will look again.
thanks again.
I dont want to steal your post but I could never find my cabin filter....
mine is a 05
I just took a picture of what Im looking at...

i think its that white thing with the grid. top right corner.
ok all, now how the heck does it come out?
i dont think that is it in the top right area...
it looks like it but even if you take off that screw on the metal bar nothing moves.....
The dealership told me that my 06 SVM dosent have one only the ones with AC got it.

There's a plastic tab on the bottom that holds it in, but be careful, it's easy to break. After you remove the big bar across the front and pull that cover off the filter pulls (more or less) straight out. I'd suggest vacuuming up the leaves and crap that get sucked in there too.
Actually, looking closer at that picture I don't think you actually have the opening for the filter, it looks like it's sealed?
ya i was looking at that area and it does look like its sealed ....
i dont see any tabs ..
i wish it was the filter as i always get trash flying out of my vents....
See I am not crazy after all!!!. That is the same thing I was looking at, and yes the box is sealed. Hence my post and question of whether or not the SVM without AC has one. I don't think so. Whew, I feel better now.
to bad we dont have filters
im tired of having to clean up after everything that flys into the car.
There is a filter in there. Look at the photo above. After you remove the four screws from the metal bar, you will be able to remove the small cover that was circled in red in the photo above.
so yeah... if you hear funny sounds coming from that area and decide to stick your head under there while unclipping that tab... I'd suggest safety glasses... I got an eye full of palm tree seeds a few days ago when my a/c went out.
(fixed by topping off with some new a/c fluid... bummer as it's a sealed system and should last forever)
Unless you have have a leak.Quote:

also the condenser is in front of the rad, so it can get a pin hole leak from road debris. doubt this is your problem though, cause you wouldn't have been able to recharge it.
theoretically, if you had enough palm tree seeds in there to clog the evaporator, so it would work in-efficiently enough for how small the system is, your compressor could have "boiled" off some of the refrigerant. but the compressor would have needed to get pretty hot, and there would have to have been enough clogging to cause little to no temp change through the evaporator to keep the pressure up (plus get past the pressure valve) to do that.. the system would have been kicking off and on for a while.. (similarly to when the refrigerant is low, but consistently since the pressure switch would keep it running)
most systems need a slight recharge after 5 years, again with use/climate, anyhow. just from the system burning the pag oil out of it. i would say if you refilled it with a bottle that also had O ring conditioner, you would probably be ok for longer than you think. but the presence of a leak is possible..
Thank God for this post, its helped me smile ear to ear again, I had a completely blocked airfilter, it didn't allow any airflow through it.
Do you know the part number for the Cabin Filter and the Engine Air Filter as well?
Here is video if anyone needs help.

The above video is great, but my 04 had a plastic piece underneath the metal bar that was removed, which made removal of the filter impossible ! I cut the plastic piece that is shaped just like the metal one that's removed and have suffered no ill affects . I shoved the crevice tool on my shop vac to get any loose junk out of the plenum , which they don't do in the video..
My 09 had the same plastic piece. I didn't cut it off completely, just snapped one of the sides so I could bend it out of the way. I'll probably take your idea and just cut the plastic bar off, since it really is pointless with the metal bar there.
And the last mechanic I had talked to told me there wasn't a cabin air filter in my car...
I bought mine through Amazon--

Amazon.com: TYC 800027P Chevrolet Aveo Replacement Cabin Air Filter: Automotive
--Mike
They aren't the stock GM filters, but I wouldn't worry about getting original GM filters, there's not really a point. These ones would work just as well, and definitely cost less. If you look around on amazon or in an automotive store, you should be able to find stuff that fits your car. Normally I'd recommend just going to an automotive store, they have books that let you look up what filters they sell that will fit your car.
That said, if you're dead set on OEM, here are some part numbers.
Air intake filter: GM Part # 96536696 or ACDelco A3081C
Cabin air filter: GM Part # 96449577
Some Aveos definitely did not come with a cabin air filter. I own a 2007 Aveo5 SVM and this morning I went to change the cabin air filter (after nearly 9 years!). There is none.
After I did not find the little vertical door (filter cover), only knockouts where it should be, I went ahead and removed the screws holding the lower half of the HVAC housing to the upper half and pried it open and used a strong LED flashlight to look inside. The first time I looked I saw no slots/guides for the filter so I checked again after removing two more large screws towards the back. The bottom half of the housing still wouldn't come out - I think it is attached by a couple more large screws accessed from the engine compartment. However, I did see the filter slots/guides. I am going to try and obtain a filter cover and then cut out the knockouts where it goes.
Another thread on this site lists the GM P/N as 96434187
I think they all have it, I've never seen an AVEO without one. Granted I've only seen 2012, 2013 and 2014 models with AC. I have to blow mine out every oil change due to my environment being so dusty.
Well, as I mentioned in my previous post, my 2007 Aveo5 SVM definitely does not have it nor did it come with the cabin air filter cover which I ordered and received. To install the cabin air filter and filter cover I have to cut out the knockouts built into the HVAC unit which I plan to do later today.
I think my Aveo came without one because not only does it not have AC but it doesn't have the optional AC installation brackets installed. I'm the original owner of the car.
Wow, kinda reminds me of the TESTORS model cars and planes I used to build as a kid. I used to hate the knockouts/cutouts. The exacto-knife that came with the kits usually weren't good enough to cut them out. I switched to a dremel tool a few years later.
Our cars were put together like a testors kit. Glue/snapon A1 to B5. Paint A1 white and B5 grey.
Yesterday I cut out the the knockouts where the cabin air filter slides in, vacuumed inside the HVAC with some mini vacuum attachments, installed the cabin air filter, and installed the cabin air filter cover I bought. I used a utility knife to cut out the plastic pieces and it was slow going ... I was very careful as I didn't want to overdo it and the plastic thickness was about 1/8" . From start to finish the job took 4 1/2 hours - I took a few breaks and rewarded myself with a cold beer once I finished cutting out the plastic.
Here is a photo of what it looked like before I cut out the plastic knockouts ("knockouts" is the wrong term because there is no way these just knock out).

And here is a photo of the finished job, showing the cabin air filter cover installed.

I recently bought a mini vacuum attachment set from Harbor Freight and it came with an adapter for a regular household vacuum and a small hose of its own with several mini vacuum tools that attach to the small hose.
8 Pc Micro Vacuum Attachment Kit
It's sold in Harbor Freight stores only but if there isn't one near you the kit or a similar one can probably be found on Amazon.
This car never ceases to disappoint. I have a 2010 Chevy Aveo with AC and it has no cabin air filter. Should I be worried? I live in Texas and it is very hot. I had to replace my entire AC unit already. . . could have have been contributing to the problem? Unlike others I have never had any trash fly into my car. I guess I could install one, are they completely necessary?
Who can we sue?/!
