2009 Aveo 5 Rear Seat Release

So it says that you can rotate the rear seats forward by pulling on the loop at the back of the rear seats. I ran a screwdriver through the loop and pulled for all I could and the release wouldn't let go.
Any ideas on how to get it free? The car was in an accident prior to our purchase, and whomever reassembled the car put the left side seat belt upside down and I'd like to get it right side up, but I think I need to rotate the seat forward in able to be able to access the seat belt catch.

Are the seats already folded down? They need to be. In mine it takes very little pressure to release it.

Yes, they are folded down already. I suspect the accident damage has something to do with it.

Perhaps having someone sit (or bounce) on the seat while you are pulling on the loop will work it loose. Keep the loop under tension until they get off the seat and then lift it up.

Could someone post a photo of what the thing looks like with the seat up? The release mechanism.
