I'm not sure about neon lights, but if they're anything like florescent lights they don't really like to be turned on and off a lot, especially in the cold. LEDs would bet a better more robust way to go.
Silly me. I was thinking LED but typed neons. Yeah definitely a strip of weatherproof LED's would work. Do you or anyone else happen to know where to find out how to hook them up to the turn signals?
If you plan to run them to your turn signals, be prepared toruna LOT of wire.
Wouldn't it just run to the front or where exactly would I connect a wire to my turn signals?
Playing with your blinkers isn't incredibly straight forward. The resistance of the bulbs determine the blinking speed. If you wire the LEDs in series or parallel it will effect the blinking speed. So, there is no real easy way to do it.
Looks like they went for a straight tie in.

LED's don't use much power, so it may not have any effect on the signal speed. otherwise you could consider switching to led bulbs in the housing and just run a resistor to make it all match up.
Brake and reverse lights would actually be easier to do.
Oh really? Well then that does sound tempting. Problem is that I don't know too much on wiring :sad10:
It looks worse than it is. Take your time and try to find a wiring diagram that labels the wires by their colors, if no one on here can give it to you. Then It's just a matter of running the wires and doing the actual splice. Patience, and planning will make it as easy as can be.
i bought a bunch of 1 ft led strips from ebay, some amber and some red. i'm planning on the ambers to be part of the turn signals and the reds will be with the brakes and also for interior lighting. with the turn signals i'm looking at using a quick splice with the side marker, then i can wire between the leds. should be able to connect to just the blinker wire so that the lights stay off until the blinker is activated.
