Shifter shifts but stuck in park.

I have a 2010 Aveo auto that shifts but the transmission gets stuck in park. It is actually shifting the transmission. I can put the car in neutral and it won't roll. Push it forward and backward, it let go and drives as normal. Sometime it makes a buzz/rattle before it does it.

No one chimed in, did you get this problem fixed?
I'm thinking possibly shifter interlock issue, possible brake switch? Let us know if you found something out!

I didn't get it fixed. The shifter shifts fine, and it is moving the shift lever on the transmission. When it's in gear the torque converter engages and doesn't let the engine rev free, but it won't roll. You can't even push it. You can turn off the engine, put it in park, and rock it fore and aft, and it will go after that. It's like it has a trans brake.

I had a similar issue with an Oldsmobile 98 about 10 years ago. Turns out the shift linkage inside the transmission housing had some free play and was binding up. You could shift gears on the column fine but it wasn't completely shifting into the proper gear in the transmission. Mine wouldn't go into drive or reverse sometimes. I'd put the car in neutral, rock it back and forth a few times until you could feel the transmission actually go into neutral, and then get back in and shift into drive or reverse.

Did you get it fixed? Was it expensive?

Wow, my father's Aveo had the exact same thing happen yesterday morning. It now randomly engages the parking pin in all gears, including neutral. I was hoping someone knew where I could find the wiring diagrams or transmission documents on what engages the parking pin so I could at least disable it for now. (We used to also have a manual 2011 hatchback so we've always just used the handbrake to actually park the car)

I don't know about your case, but in my father's car, you can hear it engaging and disengaging on it's own with the engine off with the hand brake pulled with anything selected on the shifter.
