if its an 07 then im guessing you have a warranty which means you should bring her in. ur thermostat may be stuck. my guess.
If the fan is not coming on it's either a bad relay or an electrical issue. When my water pump was covered under warranty I had an overheating problem after that... thing is, it was periodic. After taking it back to the dealer they couldn't fix it and gave it back to me. I later found the problem... the plug wasn't snapped in all the way at the fan. So, that said take it to the dealer, but most likely its a relay under your hood. You will see a couple of them for the fan.
Run the car to operating temp and once it gets there turn the heater on full blast. This will keep it from overheating. Now swap out the relays for your fan with other similar relays, such as your headlights one at a time and see if the fan comes on. If it does... you found the bad relay.
Also check the plug.
to add to subachads post:
the plug for the fan is located at the bottom of the fan. too access it you need to crawl under your car and its on the passengers side if I remember correctly. but i cant be sure on that last part.
thanks ill crawl under it tomorrow to see whats going on if i cant figure it out im gonna take it to the dealer hope its just a relay.
could also be the fan resistor. Mine blew in a snow storm this winter. Take it to the dealer.
Though I have an 08 Aveo hatch, all of my experience is with VW. So I will explain what I would check on a VW and you can apply it to the Aveo.
The fan will not come on if the fan switch doesn't get hot. On a VW it's in the rad. If the water is not circulating the fan will not come on.
With a cold motor let it idle and the upper hose will warm and get hot as the motor warms. The lower hose will stay cold until the t stat opens. When the gauge reads close to a normal operating temp the lower hose should get hot. This tells you that the t stat and water pump are probably OK.
Now with both hoses and the rad hot the next step is the fan. Watch the gauge and if it's starting to go to a level you don't like turn off the motor.
If you turn on the A/C the fan should run, this is a good way to cool it down and check part of the fan system.
You can unplug the fan switch and put in a jumper wire to make the fan run. If it works this way you have a problem with the switch or it's not getting hot enough.
Like I said take this as general info. It my not apply to your needs.
well i think i found the problem.......no coolant. im just confused on were it went i dont have a leak so i duno i got an appointment with the dealership for monday to look at it well see what they said but since i put fluid in it it hasnt went past the half way mark. im pretty smart! should of checked that awhile ago.
still pretty good you're taking it in, you might have an air bubble since you filled it....Quote:

well i took it to the dealer and they had to replace the freeze plug. that was were my coolant was going. but thats not all. so i needed a tire alignment so i had them do it but...they couldn't. here i have a bent rear axle and a broken front driver side strut. things just get better and better!!!!!!
i still love my aveo!
how'd you manage that? and not notice?
Bent rear axle and broken strut? WOW
Well, it is an 07, and unless they can prove that you did something to cause that problem, they have to repair or replace.
You do know an Aveo isn't a Baja racer, right? Just a thought.
Keep the car out of the dunes and for God's sake, don't do that Dukes of Hazard, general lee stuff..
haha i duno. now to top it off i got into an accident last night. my whole front end is smashed in. yyyyyyyyeah. now im not to happy. :x
wow sorry to hear that, but maybe u should just ride a bike around....but you really dont remember hitting anything that would cause a broken strut and rear axle?Quote:

Go to walmart and buy a tall black funnel that's like 18" long next time you fill your radiator. If your fill the funnel to the top and let it run into your radiator it will burp the system for you and you dont have to mess with it.Quote:
