oil on threads of 1 spark plug
I have a 2006 Chevrolet Aveo Special Value 4 Door Sedan
Yesterday I changed my serpentine belt, without an issue. Then changed my spark plugs with some NGK Iridium, and to my disappointment I found oil on one threads of one of the spark plugs!!!
I have roughly 125,000 miles and was expecting to do my timing belt this week, and my brake pads and shoes, and sock absorbers and struts and bearing plates. but now I believe I may have a lot more work to do!!
The question is, what is it that I have to do? Pull one piston? Rebuild? what options do I have
What parts do I need to rebuild and what are the best parts to get, and where is the best place to get them?
Re: oil on threads of 1 spark plug
Does it smoke on startup, or while running, or in general go through oil? If yes, then you may have a problem. If no, then I think you're jumping to conclusions. You need to gather a bit more info to make a good decision on what to do.
Re: oil on threads of 1 spark plug
Oil on a spark plug might be as simple as a bad valve cover gasket.

Is it ONLY on the threads? If so, check the spark plug seal itself. Also, you may not have tightened it adequately.
Re: oil on threads of 1 spark plug
i had oil on all four of mine, but it was from the problem i had a long time ago, it does not really mean anything, not unless you are smoking or burning through a ton of oil

Oil or Oily? maybe is gas... does it smell like gas?
perhaps it's an inyector leak... try swapping sparks between cyls.
Re: oil on threads of 1 spark plug
No it does not smoke on startup.
yes it has always burned oil but a small amount, never even a 1/5 of a quart every 4,000 miles.
It is definitely oil.
Yes it is only on the threads of one spark plug. Counting from left to right it would be the 2nd cylinder.
The check engine light is on. I still am sure it has to do with the timing belt, because it is about that time. But now I know it's got to be something more.
How would I go about testing it? How do I know what is the failure?
Re: oil on threads of 1 spark plug
I'd start by getting that code read. Take your car to the local autoparts store. They'll scan the code for free.
Re: oil on threads of 1 spark plug
whats a good site to lookup the codes when I return home?
