Next Step After CAI?

Howdy, and greeting from the great white north.

I picked up my 06 Aveo Hatch 5 Speed manual on Tuesday. I immediately installed a cone air filter and got a bump from that.

What would be the next logical step next for performance - excluding exhaust?

BTW - I traded in my 04 GTO on the Aveo. No poop. The GTO is an awesome car, but it is heavy. I would rather have less hp, but a lighter car, which is wht I have in the Aveo.

Just a plain cone filter isn't a CAI. You need to actually route the intake somewhere (generally the fenderwell) that actually gets cooler air than the engine bay.
Unfortunately for the Aveo, the hp/weight ratio sucks.

well, plugs and wires would be good. maybe if you got an extra 3 grand a turbo might be nice.

With IHE you *might* get 15 bhp, generally what you see for low displacement I4 engines.
If I had the $$ I'd rather have the GTO...
Sure it's 1500 more lbs than the Aveo, but it has 3.5x the hp... and you're at 10.6 lbs/hp vs 22.8 lbs/hp in the aveo. The Aveo is "virtually" twice the weight. Plus the LS1 engine was actually pretty dang good.

I never got much chance to use the 350-400 hp on the street. That's one big reason I traded it.

Well since you excluded the exhaust, you can try a header and a high flow cat. Which of course would probably have to be custom. Try port mathing the the throttle body, intake ports or header ports. It all depends on what exactly your trying to accomplish. Theres alot of things you can do if you have the funds to back it up with.

Kind of off the subject, but does the ecu "learn" my driving habits? For example, the Hyundai Elantra I had was supposed to "learn" if you flogged your car, and it would adjust the fuel/air mappings to give you best performance (at the sacrifice of mpg) alternatively, if I baby-ed the car, it would adjust for best mpg.

Is the Aveo ecu like that?
