New exhaust manifold on!
« Thread Started on Jan 30, 2006, 4:32pm »

Well I got my ported exhaust manifold put on today, only problem was that a stud for the cat snapped off

So now I have to wait until the morning to get that drilled out and replaced

Hopefully after I get that fixed I can see some real improvements! I might also hollow out the cat while i'm doing the stud too

better use a O2 simulator on the 2nd O2 sensor if you hollow out the cat or you will get a check engine light and the ECU will go into Limp mode

just do this. goto autozone and get a anti fouler for a spark plug, I forget the size (there are 2 sizes) remove your 2nd o2 sensor. make sure you get a longer anti fouler and put it in the o2 bung on the pipe. next install your o2 sensor in the anti fouler. what that does is pull the o2 sensor away from the exhaust gas flow. So it picks up less reading and fools the o2 sensor that the cat is working. So no CEL. I would go with a high flow cat and eliminate the factory one, because the elbow at the bottom of the factory cat is really restrictive. I was gonna just put a new elbow on but the bend is too steep to make a good one. so I am going to get the header for the aveo. then use a hi flow cat. Let me know how it goes

i ordered a highflow cat from andysautosport. should be here next week then i'll get it on, get a new downpipe, and finish off the exhaust and i'll post how much gain i've got (approx. gain, not dyno numbers.) Who knows, I might even put a sound file of my exhaust up. (I'm also getting ready to make a short video of the car)
