Need a new thermostat (AGAIN)

Ever since the weather started getting cold, I’ve noticed that Scoot Scoot is not getting up to full operating temperature (210 degrees) this morning when I did my commute into work, I put my generic scan tool on to see if what I was seeing on the dash was what the ECMwas seeing. The picture I have is AFTER a 20 minute drive at highway speeds (30-55 MPH) and parking in the parking lot at my work. The temperature never exceeded 150 degrees and the heat was adequate, but not the usual “cooking like an oven” heat. I have a feeling my replacement thermostat is stuck open and is over cooling the engine. But the big question is, should I try my luck at another $90 thermostat, or should i just say screw it and have my local GM dealer order the complete thermostat and housing assembly at an eye watering $350?

Before you replace it, grab your lower and upper radiator hose to make sure coolant is actually flowing through when its not supposed to.

If it is bad, I'd roll the dice on another cheaper one. Thermostats are very inexpensive items normally. Never had a bad one. I've had them go bad, but never bought a bad one.

Or you could pay $137 US, plus shipping, for an AC Delco thermostat and housing from RockAuto. And install it yourself and save a few dollars.

That’s exactly what I’m going to do; that $350 is if I waltzed into my local GM Dealership.

Just get a Dorman thermostat. They have a pretty good reputation. No need to pay $350 or even $90 for a themostat. You can get a new thermostat, housing, and gaskets for much less.

You don’t understand, I cracked the rear housing when I was installing my new thermostat; and it’s pouring coolant out of the crack, my only 2 options are either pay $160 (that's with taxes and shipping) at Rockauto and wait 2-3 days, or have my wallet brutally raped by my Local GM dealer at $387 and possibly have to wait a week or more for GM to ship the damn thing!

Dude......You live in the US. You should be able to drive to an auto parts store and pick it up tonight. Or get it next-day with Amazon Prime.

PS- The Autozone and Advance Auto in Dickson, TN both have thermostats and housings in stock. Both of which are under $30

I actually got the last Duralast thermostat my Autozone had in stock; but again it doesn’t help me.

Perhaps THESE photos can better explain my problem; I can throw as many thermostats I want at her, but I can’t fix a sheared off mounting tab.

EDIT: I checked all of the major parts houses, Advance and O'Reilly's are special order, and Autozone doesn't even carry it. but you mentioning Amazon Prime made me check, and I have a new one on the way by Friday.

Hopefully you got a new metal housing. Those plastic ones are notorious for breaking.

Well, got it in last night, and was extremely surprised to see that it was the Genuine Article that GM loves to overcharge for!

And THAT is the ECT I’m wanting to see! And the P0599 is gone! Unfortunately that P0132 has replaced it. At least now my cooling fan isn’t going to be running all the time now!

I would stay away from Doorman parts. I don't think they are very good quality. I have purchased several Doorman parts and each time either had to replace them in fairly short period of time or found that they didn't fit properly.
