Motor temperature gauge installation

Hi, I'm new to this forum and just read 'Installing a transmission oil temperature gauge'.
Recently I got an Aveo (here it's called Sonic T300, I think) with an 1.6 l petrol engine.
I noticed that there wasn't an (coolant) temperature gauge visible on the dash, but
certainly it would sit anywhere in the infotainmentsystem... until now I didn't find it :-(
But I find it a very important issue to know this.
So what are my options;
- use an (simple) OBD reader; just the coolant temp or
- should I go for an (old) sytem with sensor and a 'clock' on the dashboard reading the temp,
