metal thermostat housing that can be delivered to Canada?
After reading about the plastic thermostat housing thing, I figured I should be safe instead of sorry and replace it with a metal one before anything happens.
I did find one on ebay, but it's a seller in the US that only ships to US. I have sent a message to find out if they can possibly ship to Canada, but haven't heard back yet.
Anyone know where else one can find this part in metal instead of plastic? I have googled but not turned up anything useful.

Go to the dealership. The metal housing is an updated part. Just ask for a 2008 Aveo to make sure.

I talked to my GM dealership here in Calgary, AB. and they had 1 in stock for $80 cdn and it came with the thermostat.

Interesting. This newer metal part from the dealership is backwards compatible with the older models?

Re: metal thermostat housing that can be delivered to Canada?
I would assume so. I told them the year, make and model of my car and that's what I was quoted. It was $87.13 for the aluminum housing, thermostat and it included a seal/gasket.
I even asked the parts person to check the housing to make sure it was aluminum and sure enough he told me it was. I'll be doing mine sometime shortly.

Awesome, thanks for the info.
I found one that potentially ships to Canada, the part itself I might be able to get for around $45 (plus shipping of course). If that doesn't pan out, I will check out the dealer.
I would definitely prefer metal over plastic. Why should this part be made out of plastic anyway?

Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CHEVROLE ... ccessories
I found the same seller on iOffer and they do ship to Canada. They accepted an offer of $45+shipping ($15 to Canada), so I'm getting it for a total of $60.

The engine from 2004 to 2008 is the same. So yes the metal thermostat housing will definitely bolt up.

Open the hood and look at the top radiator hose. Now on the engine and that hose is the thermostat housing. The easiest job you've ever seen!

Re: metal thermostat housing that can be delivered to Canada?
Wow, you are right then... And how soon do they usually fail? I'm at about 30k and just wanna figure out when I should start worrying about it. :D

Re: metal thermostat housing that can be delivered to Canada?
BTW, might do this when I drain/fill my coolant.

I have 75k km on the car with no problems so far... I'm not that worried about it. I'm pretty sure it was a problem blown out of proportion.

Re: metal thermostat housing that can be delivered to Canada?
Cool. Thanks. 8) Then I'll get to it when I figure out what I wanna put in there as far as coolant goes.

This. Which is why I didn't bother leaving the plastic one in there. I didn't see any signs of cracking and there didn't seem to be any leak; but may as well put the metal one and have it never crack. I'm around 94k km though.

I think the one I got was something like this : http://shopping.canoe.ca/shop/product-- ... 39438.html
Also, isn't Prestone usually good? Anyone care to offer their input on coolant?

Any coolant is good as long as you follow the maintenance interval of the coolant. Regular coolant is 2 years, long life 5 years and Amsoil is 7 years.

Re: metal thermostat housing that can be delivered to Canada?
Frog got me beat, but this one is the one I was looking at using... I think I can get it through my AMSOil dealer (he might actually have it in stock, he's got about $17K US worth of that stuff at his garage at any given time).
http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/ant.aspx
That way I can just put it in there and not worry about it for the next 7 years or 250,000 miles. And that's a lot of years and/or miles for a car. I'll either sell, trade, or crash it way before that time comes.

Re: metal thermostat housing that can be delivered to Canada?
Awesome, thanks for the info. So far my coolant temp is pretty stable at around 79-82 celsius, but it has been pretty cool outside the past couple days. I have seen it reach 89-90 on warmer days.

Re: metal thermostat housing that can be delivered to Canada?
mine gets to 190F on a normal day

Re: metal thermostat housing that can be delivered to Canada?
Just received my metal thermostat in the mail today! I will probably install it this weekend. \:D/

Auto Zone now makes a replacement thermostat housing thats NOT made of plastic. Its called a "Compressor Works" / "Water Outlet" and bolts in perfectly. $36.
