Freeze plug heater
I am installing a Katz freeze plug heater part # 11405 in my 2006 Aveo 1.6 automatic. I believe I have found the correct freeze plug and was wondering if the hole is in fact threaded. I have called the manufacturer tech line to confirm location of freeze plug. But I am still concerned that after I take out the old freeze plug if the threads are there. Anyone else do this themselves?
BTW I am going to working the in the North Dakota oil fields and I know it gets cold there. Changed oil to Synthetic 0w20 today. Any other recommendations?

i cant say the plug hole is threaded or not, but i think if the temperatures are that extreme, you should look into a circulating heater? there is an oem "block" heater as well. I think i would also try to "heat" the oil pan even with the thinner oil.

I also work in the ND oil fields, and despite what the locals say about block heaters being "absolutely required" I have yet to need it even during -30 cold starts. Even my 1985 F250 starts at -30.

-30, oh god, I think I will stay down here ;)

I've been a mechanic in Alaska for a long time and I've replaced a few Automattic Transmissions due to cold take off's. Synthetic ATF, those small glue on pan heaters and Remote Start is like the 1st step in having a trouble free winter.
