Engine reving up when clutch is depressed to change gears.

      Hi
      Im new here quick question.
My Aveo is a manual 5 speed. Wondering why the engine revs up when depressing the clutch pedal
to shift gears. Is this a normal thing ? I haven't had a stick since the 70's.
It's true You never forget how to drive a manual trans. The car gets 30mpg urban driving
and 39.9 highway in 5th gear.
      Thanks
      Steven

Being you said it was almost 40 years since you last drove a stick, i'm going to say you need to adjust your driving skills. The DBW throttle has a signal delay to help maintain movement, you might be trying to be too quick in your shift when it is not necessary and the engine is still giving the car gas..

      Hi,
Thanks for reminding me , Yes I have been driving it old school. I will try that tip. I did some reading about the drive by wire system
The cars I had with stick were 1972 maverick, 1976 Vega GT. then rest were automatics. However on a low powered engine the
stick shift is far better than the automatic transmissions.
