engine oil cooler idea
So i was searching the internet for an idea and i thought of an engine oil cooler. It would have tobe custom of course has anyone thought of this it might be a good idea for those who rally cross like a few of our members do. Im interested because i want my car to run cooler if possible. The only way i see this happening is an adpter plate off the oil filter port but i don't know the thread size or if theirs enough room for the plate and filter i found a plate i think it might work.
Heres the link to the plate if any are interested

Sorry to say, but there isn't going to be any benefit to doing this. The coolant in your engine cools the oil off just fine to the temperature it was designed for. The cooling system is also massivly oversized for 99% of the driving you will ever do (including rallying). Perhaps if you were rally racing in the middle of a desert on a hot day you might need additional cooling, but in Germany you'll be just fine.

i have to agree with daox, better cooling is only really needed if you are towing, overheating, etc.

It was just a thought because the grill area is so small on the 1st gen hatches i thought it would cool it better. No biggy

The grill is actually pretty huge when you look at it. For a given size radiator, the grill opening only needs to be about 1/3rd the area.
One of the things OEMs have been doing lately for better aerodynamics (and thus better mileage) is reducing grill opening size.

Im not worried about mpgs or aero i just want my car to run cooler if its one thing ive noticed about cars over here compared to the states is grill size. Audis and BMWs have massive grills even when i had my 91 316 bmw it ha da huge grill thus it can stay cooler at higher speeds. but than again our body style was designed for korea hahahaha

Your engine operates at the temperature of your thermostat. It really doesn't have much to do with your grill size. You can normally buy hotter/colder thermostats. However, there isn't really any benefit to running an engine cooler except maybe to advance ignition timing a little bit if you have a tunable ECU.
