Question Engine light on? (-40 to -50 in Alaska - is that why?)

I have a Chevy Aveo Ls 2006 and the engine light is on as of this morning. When I started it was on.I was hearing the puttering of the exhaust and when I went to drive it, it was going very slow.I live here in Alaska and it has been -40 to -50 below zero.Any ideas on what is wrong with it.Could it be frozen liquids or something?Any ideas please?

was the light on as soon as you started it, or shortly after?

my guess could be alot of things with that temp.. but a code scanner will be definitive.

I'm going with and a bad throttle positioning sensor. Get the codes scanned and tell us what they are.
I leased Pontiac Wave from September 2006 to August 2011.

You don't necessarily have to buy a scanner. Some auto parts stores will scan your car for free (in the hopes they can also tell you what part they can sell you to fix the problem, but there's no obligation).

If you do get a scanner, at least get something multifunctional like a ScanGauge.

That is usually a sign the TPS is going bad. Only way to replace it is to get a new throttle body assembly.
