the hub bearing and strut bolt pattern for the spindle of a mk1 vw are the same. So if your serious about a big brake kit, you could do up to an 11.3" rotor with a vw spindle easier than you could do a cobalt hub..

      Hey,

The hub is a 4X100pcd on the Volkswagen Mark I Golf?

The bolt pattern to mount the hubs to the spindles are the same as the Aveo?

What else do you know? Give me some numbers.

      Thanks so much.

Yes, I am serious! I race with buddies on a dirt and gravel track up in the woods near my house, let's just say braking is useful, along with traction. I plan on doing some serious modifications the is coming spring/summer.

the hub is a 4x100, but you would need to press the hub in from the aveo to match the splines on the axle.
you would then be able to use the vw brake rotor, carrier, and caliper to do the bigger brakes, you can bolt the strut right to it, but you will need spacers the aveo spindle is wider. The tie rod end should fit, but if it does not i believe both tierods are the same threads.. the only issue i can see is the ball joint/placement. but that can be solved a number of ways, the aveo uses a 2 bolt (rivet oem) style ball joint, with is about the same as an early 80's passat i believe.

      my inbox is always full.

Hey rabbit, have you been doing anything with the disk brake conversion? If so, what are you doing along the lines of a proportioning valve? Are the stock ones from the Aveo suitable for the rear disc conversion or will it cause lock-up?

      Cheers

yo, im buying the cobalt axles and i see there are different lengths. what length is the axle you used? also wouldnt i have to use cobalt hubs because the axles are different. and arent the hubs from the cobalt a different size than the knuckle of the aveo? this is really confusing.

Hey guys it has been a long time since I have been on this site, the car has been running very good with no problems. I am installing a stage 3 upgrade for anyone that interested and I have also did a custom A/C install because I have moved to Florida and down here it is needed. I will try and give as mush detail about the stage 3 install as I can. The kit was from Over the Top Performance and it came with the parts listed below, the one thing I did not get from OTTP was the over size idler pulley.

I will continue the wright-up tomorrow it is getting a bit late for me now, I will also go over the changes that you will need to change using HPTuners to create a stage 3 file, I also added the LT4 throttle body. I will also go over the changes for that. As for the A/C I will put that on a different tread.

this thread has been fun to follow, i am definitely interested in this setup as well and will continue to follow. a lot, probably most of this build is beyond my abilities but i have a friend who is qualified and would be seriously interested in helping me out on a mod like this.. and i mean like 18months down the road here so i can save for it.
personally I like the supercharger setup for the low end torque it would supply, where a turbo wouldn't be up to the task

      Stage3 upgrade for Avebolt

OK just to summarize the stage 3 kit is not a bit mystery and if you already have HpTuners you can put the whole thing together on the cheap side. Listed below are the parts that you will need and the estimated price for the parts, most of the parts you can find on EBay. I you have HPTuners you can do the entire Stage3 upgrade for about $260.00.

      Parts List:

      1) Siemns Deka 60lb injectors #107961 on Ebay
      2) P&P Injector Harness from AutoMods LLC on Ebay
      3) NGK BKR7E
      3) 2.8 in M62 supercharger pulley from OTTP

The only difference between the stage2 and the stage3 on the ECM is the flow rate for the injectors, everything else stays the same.
