Does The Plastic Engine Cover Do Anything??

Always wondered if that stupid plastic cover on the Aveo engine does anything, other than make it look 'pretty'??

Does it actually protect anything in the engine? Can I remove it and just drive without it, or am I risking damage to the engine from...water, heat, or anything??

I want to take it off my 2006 Aveo. So....is it ok, or am I inviting problems??

The engine cover on the Etec II is partially for looks but it also helps keep water, dirt and other debris out of the spark plug tubes, timing belt area and cam sensor. Therefore I really wouldn't suggest removing it as you really don't want these things exposed to the elements. Its always better to leave well enough alone.

It is there for a reason. Have no plan to take mine off but I'm thinking of painting it.
