Hi all... in the middle of a head replacement following timing belt idler failure. Stuck on the rear head coolant connector - I can't get it out of the old head!

I'm down to a shortblock with the head and all of the things that attach to it removed. The new head is sitting on some foam pads, being assembled with the intake manifold and all of its goodies. The one thing holding me up now is this stupid coolant tube. Everyone I have talked to says their reman head came with the new tube already pressed in. The local mechanic said he has nothing of the sort, but knows that they are usually screwed or pressed in, and the new head has no threads so must be a press in. Kind of irritated that the head machinists sent me this head without an essential piece, but want me to get the core back to them within 30 days or they'll charge the $100 core charge. Meanwhile, I'm imagining that when I go to the Chevy Dealership they won't have a clue what I'm talking about. Oy.

otherwise kroil, heat/freeze for multiple thermal cycles, wipe off oil, wiggle back and forth and/or turn back and forth little by little until it backs out and if it just turns w/o coming out then pull while wiggling.
can't get a grip? vice grips with socket or extension inside so not to crush tube; twist, wiggle, pry out.
other ideas: old school gm 3.1 tube extractor
