Clutch or throw-out bearing?

I get the feeling my clutch is still ok at 115,000. Still grabs ok no major slippage.

I think my throw out bearing went bad... since new its made a light squeek any time you press the clutch pedal.

Recently the squeek went away. worked great for a bit, but now the thing is making more noise, that even worse, and getting the clutch to engage smoothly is an issue..

Might as well replace the whole clutch right?

Any brands of clutch to avoid? anyone tackle a clutch replacement yet?

Actually I now think it's the slave cyl.. It squeeks loudly, and the feel of the pedal keeps changing. But as far as getting into gear and accelerating, it's fine, no-slippage.

I hope...easier/cheaper fix than the t/o bearing.

it could the the slave cylinder, its a cheaper attempt at fixing a problem. And it would damage the clutch itself if it goes bad, so i would probably try that first.

hmm, I need to get mine replaced... I know it's leaked a couple of times. I have one, just never put it in. since they share a master cylinder, what are signs I might expect of that going out?

I used a Sach's clutch kit which turned out to be made by Valeo (Sach's repackaged). Stay away from "performance" clutches. Valeo is a major OEM.

RockAuto has good prices online, like $99 for the Sach's kit.

Try bleeding your clutch master cylinder and check for leaks. Pull back the rubber protective cover on cylinder to see if any fluid is present.

Often "throwout bearings" go noisy if they are failing. From my experience anyways, but they continue to work for a long time it seems.

Always change the throwout when replacing the clutch. If you have it apart you might as well change it. Grinding noise when pressing the clutch pedal all the way down is the throwout. It should be a little quieter if you push it in up until right before you hit the floor and then it gets really loud when fully compressed. This is because you are shifting the race when things become tight and you are operating outside the groove in the bearing. Sach's clutch kits are the best. Very tight clutches and will outlast the OEM. The best way to change a throwout is to take it somewhere that is trans specialist unless you really know what you are doing. A properly centered press is required to get the best fit and longest lasting bearing.
