Chromeintakes CAI
Got my Chromintakes CAI with K&N filter installed on Friday. Wasn't very impressed with the fit. I had to re-drill the sensor port and find a new gasket, the one it came with was way too small. It hits the frame near the shock, its pretty clearly generic not not fit to the aveo. It would have bounced around the hole through the frame, so I slit a chunk of fule line to make a bumper/gasket. Getting the positioning right to be able to put the wheel well splash guard back took forever. Are the rest of you just leaving that off? If so no wonder people are so worried about hydro lock! Looks like a clean install!

Hey goth, if u don't like the fit ( nothing seems easy on our cars) what do u think of the performance?
-
my mileage went from 28 to 33 which is a nice jump, and was most of my goal. My wife is terrible about driving for mileage and her automatic with a crap spectre short ram is getting 34. So I may take off the lower half at some point to cross test. I did also gain a bit or torque at the bottom of 1st and 2nd gear.

I don't mean to burst your bubble but that intake alone did not give you a 5 mpg increase. No way, no chance. The install does look very clean though and I like how it's a true CAI and goes out of the engine bay. Pics of the filter below the engine?

Don't forget u got a filter in the wheel well- I did n my MAF went to ****. I think I'm going to just buy an AEM dry flow because they seem the easiest to clean/maintain
-
for the price a little effort to get it to fit is worth the savings. AS long as you are happy with the final product.

Well I did clean the MAF well before putting it in. And I cleaned the the throttle body as well as I could without removing it. Those probably helped the gas mileage a bit too. All said and done I'm happy with the intake. Still gota find more ways to boost mileage. My last car was an Aspire, so I was used to an average of 42MPG. I once broke 50 on a long trip through Iowa.
Next project planned is H&R spring kit and new shocks. Hoping lowering the nose will help the aerodynamics a bit. Not to mention getting rid of that floating feel as the highway curves.

To fix the hitting the shock issue on mine, I made a bracket that runs from the old air box mounting holes. It comes straight out and supports the underside of the cold air intake. Held mine in place with a hose clamp. Not the prettiest fix, but very effective.

When I dropped the car on H&Rs I picked up about 2mpgs, a civic lip might help as well( $30 on e bay). Right now I shortend my intake to a short ram to see if there is a noticeable difference, I have yet to hit the E-way but on the streets I haven't noticed anything on the butt dyno
