Re: car sputters
Every thermostat I have ever seen has everything you need right there.

Re: car sputters
the part with the spring IS the thermostat.. your driving without one. replace that first with a new one, like $10..
if the temp reading was affecting gas feed, the could have tricked the o2. but but it sounds like the o2 might be needing replaced as well.

Re: car sputters
no i have not installed the aluminum thermo yet since it didnt have the spring part inside. the stock 1 is still on. as far as the sensor ill try 2 look 4 a replacement 2morrow.

Re: car sputters
My guess would be that the problem is not the thermostat. I'd imagine the O2 sensor has gone bad. Sensor 1 bank 1 means its the sensor right in the exhaust manifold, not the one behind the CAT.
BTW, this is a thermostat. The aluminum/plastic piece is just the housing for the thermostat.

Re: car sputters
I thought he was running without a thermostat and that was leaving the car running in warm up mode even even though the temp "was" correct to the o2. The excessive gas would make the o2 try to adjust fuel outside it's perimeter and throw a code. But since the t-stat hasn't been changed yet (not missing) then it is the o2.

Re: car sputters
Yup, thats the one. You can get at it with an adjustable wrench, but its a real pain.
