      Aveo Newbie

Hi, This is my frist post here and I just got myself an '07 Aveo. I'd like to increase its performance but I'm not knowledgable and quite tight on budget. Does anyone have any suggestion or advice for me? I'd be really appreciated.

search the board there is plenty of threads containing this information.

The easiest and inexpensive is to re-pipe your exhaust at an exhaust shop. It can be done for about $100. Then buy a performance muffler (Borla/Magnaflow). The best size for the piping is 2" or 2.25" The grand total for the exhaust should be no more than $180 (get the muffler off ebay... they have great deals)

And since your not knowledgable, you'll have to resort to buying a cold air intake. You can get a short ram (stays in the engine bay) off ebay for cheap, but i'm not sure of the quality. And then there is an AEM cold air intake (outside the engine bay) but that is around $200 or something.

      But search the forum.

Thank you, and yes I've wondered around the forum about it. Seems like I could go for a CAI. However, just for my curiosity, how much of the difference in performance does AEM CAI gives compare to the stock.

      It will give a difference.

The first mod I did was the exhaust. That gave me more power (I noticed it a lot it in the top end), plus it gave me about 5 mpg more. I then went on to the CAI, My mpg drop a little bit (back to about stock), and I noticed a power gain starting at about 3K rpms to the redline.

There is derections on how to make a CAI from a Civic DX on the board somewhere. So you can make that for about $40. All you need to do is do some cutting. Look for that Its called "aveosams intake" or "sams intake" something along the lines. I'll try to find it too since there is a few more new people on the board aswell (just to give it a bump to the top)

Also that got me curious. How does changing exhaust gives a better performance and what exhaust should I get?

Reduces backpressure so the exhaust can escape more freely, which gives more room in the engine for new air and fuel instead of retaining some already "burnt" gases. But you do want to keep some backpressure so your exhaust can have a "scavenger effect." No backpressure means your gases will just kind of sit there and have to be pushed out by the gases following it, which will cause the gases to build up. The scavenger effect is basically that when the gases are moving they will create a lowpressure area behind each pulse which will help to pull along the gases following the pulse

You can not commit crimes in a Aveo. Its just not fast enough.
