Any how-to custom exhaust articles?
Are there any good sites with how-to articles on making your own custom exhaust?
I have a pair of exhaust cans from a Ducati bike that I'd like to try on the car. But, don't have a clue as to how easy or difficult it is to make them fit.
It would be a fun project. Don't know what it would sound like nor how well it would work but, I'd like to try it.

i don't know about that particular bike. but bike mufflers are a straight through design for flow and can be had up to 2.5 inch.
i was actually going to one on my other car: problem is they only reduce noise by 5 db at most.
Re: Any how-to custom exhaust articles?
I was actually wondering if anyone had tried using a sportbike can or even thought about it. It might be tight fitting some in there but anything can be done. I'd like to hear what it would sound like.
As for them being small and restrictive exhuasts on bikes, the Suzuki Hayabusa is 1.3L and it's putting out 170hp. I'm sure using it's dual cans would be just fine for the Aveo.
Re: Any how-to custom exhaust articles?
That is a little different. Each can is only being fed by 2 cly making it .65 liters.
Re: Any how-to custom exhaust articles?
True enough, but the shear flow the bike can put out at redline should be ample flow for the lowly Aveo providing you use both exhaust canisters from the bike. Off the top of my head, the 'Busa's redline must be atleast 12,000rpm probably more compared to the 6,500 of the car.
Very interesting. I say go ahead and try it!
Re: Any how-to custom exhaust articles?
I believe my cans have 54mm pipes feeding each can. The cans were from a Ducati 748 racing machine. It's a twin engine and puts out around a hundred hp, so they are huge. They won't restrict anymore than the stock Aveo exhaust (I would imagine).
It might be a fun project. It can't hurt to try anyway.
If you've ever looked at the stock Aveo muffler. It must weigh a ton. A pair of carbon fiber racing cans weighs nothing in comparison.
I'm wondering if I can buy pre-bent pipe sections? Cut and weld them for a patchwork custom fit. May be buy pre-made flanges? Don't know quite what to do as it is all new to me.
Re: Any how-to custom exhaust articles?
if you are going to do it, and buy the "cans" as you call it. buy the universal slip on version of whichever type you want and by size. saves you from making a flange, etc.
Re: Any how-to custom exhaust articles?
I wish I could do that. But, the cans are from my bike and all the Duc Superbikes have quite a bit of pipe ahead of the can itself. I also would have to figure out a way to go from the Aveo single pipe to the dual cans of the bike.
Beginning to sound too difficult to even try. But, on the other hand, I can be pretty stubborn too.
