      Air intake mods

I changed out my spark plugs yesterday, and while I was in there I figured I'd check the air filter. Well, one of the screws was stuck, and voila, I tore the threads. I've seen pictures of Aveos with cone-shaped air filters, and I checked out a few of the how-to threads on the board. Has anyone stumbled on any new ideas? I'd love to get rid of that plastic box. Thanks!

      Toby

there is a cold air intake on ebay for $38.99 (i think) plus shipping. gives you the pipes, connectors and filter.

fitment might not be perfect. but its a good basis to start with for a small investment. i have heard people with A/C might have issues with them though? but i do not have A/C and have not purchased one yet because i was afraid it would cause cold air surging in winter and take longer to warm up the car when it is 10 degrees out

or you can just put a cone filter on to the stock pipe after removing the box

      Re: Air intake mods

I took a 2 inch long peace of 3 inch pipe and used it as a spacer between the stock rubber intake tube and a new aftermarket air filter. Which let me remove the entire plastic air box.

      Whatever you do...

DO NOT GET A CHEAP AIR FILTER, IT WILL NOT FILTER OUT THE MICRO PARTICLES FLOATING AROUND, AS A RESULT, A LAYER OF BLACK SOOT WILL FORM EVERYWHERE ON THE INSIDE OF YOUR ENGINE AND DESTROY POWER AND ECONOMY...

That's personal experience from me, I got my engine checked out and they took the top of the engine off and soot was everywhere on the headers, cylinders, everywhere...
"If I parked a T-72 tank in my back yard, aimed the cannon towards Mexico, and muttered something
about protecting my village from an invasion, the police would show up and probably haul me away."

every engine will be dirty when it is torn down. Cheap or expensive, high performance air filters have bigger orfices to let in more dirt.
