Hey, I just wrote up a how-to about tuning up your aveo from stock plugs. Like you I waited way to long (81k). I used new wires and autolite platinum plugs and they made a noticeable difference in acceleration and in startup. like others have said, if you want to go with copper plugs, you just have to change them out more often. but the better metal plugs like platinum or iridium will last longer, which for you and I is a good thing since we like to procrastinate! lol. get them things changed and youll see what I mean.

There is a gm service bulletin saying you should change the gap much smaller from 1.1mm to .8 or .9 mm. It's the reason why you are smelling gas. There is an issue that can occur with the plugs as well.

I have used Denso TT plugs in my 2006 Aveo LS, since purchased. They are the absolute best for this 4 cylinder.

They have them at Advance Auto for $3.99/each. The stock # 4504. Labeled PK20TT.

Most platinum and Iridium plugs should Never be regapped. The Denso plugs have crush washers above the threads

so proper torque is required for proper/correct sealing.
