Hmmm an r32 drivetrain thats different never would have even thought about that but thats a good one. Im all over the place now, at this point its either engine swap or turbo the 1.6l but I honestly haven't found anyone who knows anything about tuning the aver for a turbo.

Do it!, Use an modern all aluminum version LS7, to save weight on the front. GM solved the heavy V8 into light unibody issue with the "torque" arm rear suspension back in the 70's. That solution can be found on an 80's Camaro... uses twin railing arms like the Aveo and had a cast in mount on the diff, for the torque arm. But since your cutting up most of the floor anyways, might as well build a full tube chassis, shaped to fit in the aveo , and just place the shell over the frame after all was said and done. Poof...V* Aveo becomes AV8O lol.
Find Aveo How-to's at my blog. http://aveodiy.blogspot.com/

#1 mad props to you for not listening to people saying it's pointless. If everyone did that the world wouldn't be fun.
      #2. Here's my thought:
Don't go with a 350 or ls. Go with an lq4 or lq6. It's an iron block ls motor for Chevy trucks and you can get them waaay cheaper and easier than the ls.
Use a high rev cam in it to give it a little JDM style
Instead of going rear wheel drive, get a Muncie 4speed transversal out of a fiero. And yes they make whole kits to put ls engines with them
      Or...

Go balls out and make it a 4 wheel drive!

I was thinking about how fun (and dangerous) a RWD aveo would be. Considering that the value of these cars has fallen off the face of the earth and plunged into a pit so dark and depressing you may as well set fire to the car and get more value out of it burning than bothering selling it, you may have a point on a swap. Any RWD set up could be fun, even a miata drivetrain would be good in my opinion. SR20 anyone?

      Cheers
