      2009 Aveo timing belt

Do I really need the cam locking tool and the cam gear licking tool if I mark the belt and cam gear and the crank gear and transfer those marks on the new belt? And I have the 1.6 where the water pump is not ran off the timing belt. All the detailed instructions are for the other engine.

I'm new at this site so I'm trying to navigate around everything here. I meant all the detailed instructions i read about how to replace the timing belt is for the engine where the water pump is ran off the timing belt. Mine is the one in the photo I posted.

I bought a cam lock and alas it did not work as I could not get in between the the gears. Here are some home made tricks I have used before you remove the belt tension.
      1) Vise grips locking both gears together. This is a bit iffy as they sometimes slip.
      2) Tie wrap! Don't be shy with them. Lock that bad boy down and then release the tension.

The intake cam will move the gear down a bit once you release tension.
Please do not power off, firmware update pending.....

Thanks for the reply. I'm done now. I didn't realize the cam would move once the old belt came off. I'm glad I marked the belt and gears and then transfered them marks on the new belt. I had to have my neighbor help getting the belt on. It would be wise to lock them knowing what I know now.
