Hello,
New to the Aveo as far as mechanic work. Mediocre shade-tree mechanic, but main experience knowledge is older chevrolet like before the 80s. Gen I small block rebuilds and racing.
Summary - Engine swap ???:
2006 VIN KL1TG566X6B554233
2009 VIN KL1TD56E49B609831 (wrecked unfixable front end, parts car)
Both are 1.6 with slightly different specs. however, when I started to pull the engine from the 2009 it definitely looks different. Engine cover says ECOTECH and the 2006 Engine cover says E-Tec/II. Plenums on the 2006 is smaller and the ignition system different.
Bottom line is can I swap these? I am swapping engine and transmission from 2009 to the 2006. However, the wiring harness is different as the 2009 has inline top coil pack and the 2006 has single coil pack along the left side with plug wires routing into the top of the valve cover. It does not look like the valve is interchangeable and I would not trust swapping the wiring harness due to the trim being different.
I think I can change the manifold/plenum from the 2006, but the ignition has me stumped. I am am in the process of pulling the 2009 engine and do not want to get too far down the process to found out I wasted a lot of effort.
Any advice or confirmation on my concerns?
Thank you,
KS Oliver
