      Question 2006 -> 2004 engine compatiblity?

      Hello everyone,

I am preparing to do an engine swap in my 2004 Aveo, and while doing some research I came across Daox's thread here: http://www.aveoforum.com/forum/f103/...epaired-10191/

It seems like a 2007 engine went in his 2005 without a whole lot of problems, but am I missing something?
I have a 2006 engine on hold, and they told me when they look up the compatibility in their database it says the two engines are completely incompatible.

If someone could confirm it is possible, or let me know the actual differences, I would really appreciate it!
In the meantime I'll keep searching myself.

      Thank you.

Right, I read that, and in Daox's thread there it seems some of the wire connector ends are different, but the wires are the same. What I was worrying about was something like the transmission being different, but it seems like Daox was able to put the 2007 engine in with the old transmission.

I have the weekend to decide if I'm getting the engine or not, but it seems like it shouldn't be too much trouble...

It is usable even though components are different, but a database isn't going to pay mechanics to "figure out the differences" where as Daox has figured them out for you, and made his work, along with almost a dozen other people doing it successfully, either before or after him.

Daox's build thread has more than enough information unless you need a step by step how to.

I'm almost sure, without reading the build thread, that you could swap the wiring harness and intake manifold from the old motor on to the new without much difficulty, and still have a new motor. If I understand, they are the same motor, just the throttle and related wiring would be different for the drive by wire. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

I will think of a better signature later.

Take the block and swap it in your car, you can swap your old 1.6 manifold and everything else.

The only difference is drive by wire, simply swapping your old drive by cable throttle body will work.

Else than that the engines are 100% identical.

I agree, I just wanted to see if there was a "definitive" thread. The cars at my junkyard are high up and there are engine cranes so I can just lower it down and drag it out.

the minor changes that occurred that his new engine had, might be different year to year.

being you are drive by wire vs cable throttle, you will need at least to transfer your harness and throttle body over.
Everything else for the most part should plug in..
