2004 engine problems
i have a 2004 aveo and the timing belt went and took out the valves. replaced them and all the gaskets put it back together and started it up and the timing belt slipped right away and this time ruined the head. i have called about 20 used parts places and found only 2 places that have them one place wants $450.00 for a used head and the other wants $250.00 for a head with bad valves. does anyone know if their is any other motor that would fit this car besides the aveo that might be easier to find they said that their is a shortage of this motor due to this problem. thanks:D

Finding a good used head will likely be difficult because a running motor is usually sold complete and Aveo engine failures are usually caused by piston/valve contact.
Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market shows a good one in NC for $450.

thanks.. i tried to find a used motor but no luck the only one i could find the junk yard wanted 1,200.00 for it that's why i was wondering if there was any other motor that would fit . i wish i would have known about the timing belt problem with this car and i would have changed it when i bought it. i didnt get an owners manual with it. when i got online to search for the timing marks is when i found out that it should be checked every 30,000 miles. i have only put a few thousand on it since i owned it. but i guess i learned something from this never buy a car before doing research on it first.

if you do a search on this forum you will find you can drop a 04-06 motor in and everything works. you can drop a 07-08 motor in and have some minor work ie you need to use your intake manifold from the 04 and the throttle system these are all aveo 1.6l engines.other motors that will fit would be 1.8l-2l from chev optra but you need at least the computer and probly lots of other parts.any gm opel engine could be made to fit also.any engine other than the 1.6l will be more work and some mechanically inclined help.
