valve removal
I need to change out 4 of my valves, 2 intake and 2 exhaust.
I have the head off, but can not figure out how to compress the springs to remove the keepers.
The last time I did this was 30 years ago on a small block V-8. A lot different.
Can anyone help?
Thanks.

you can probably rent a Valve spring Compressor from your Local Parts House.

The one they had is to big for this car....
I was hoping for anyone that knew any tricks...

Maybe look around online and see if a smaller size is available?

if you buy a 2x4 and put a towel on it, you can set the head on that, and use that extra thickness (2x4 might no be the right size) to use on of the big c clamp style tools. But i never liked that design too much.
I would suggest using a kit that bolts down to the cam guides, in a pinch the twist type spring compressor tends to work ok (which might be too big as well).

The Aveo Service manual lists J8062 as the Specific tool for the Valves. A quick search will show you many suppliers of this product.Shop around but make sure you get the right tool I found it for $180 but check ebay and such as you can usually find them cheaper. but make sure the cheapy is still up to the job.
