Ok i have an 2006 LT and it has an auto trans since i bought the car with no knowledge of it's past history i have been slowly doing all the maint repairs that need to be done (timing belt job valve cover gasket plugs wires ect ) the one thing i am not sure of is the trans fluid. i think i need to change it or at least replace the filter and some of the fluid but the fluid is the issue the book lists some crazy gm product but is there an equivlent i can pick up at the local parts store ?

I went to my dealer to get this service done and they told me it was not required since it's a sealed transmission.
That's the 'usual party line' GM tells all of its consumers. If you've never done routine maintenance on a car you might fall for that BS nonsense. :rolleyes:Quote:

Any transmission is "sealed" until you drain and refill it. If you have one of the few vehicles that actually has no transmission dipstick then it truly is sealed. In that case, ignorance is bliss... but once it is out of warranty, Chevy won't 'give you the time of day'. :(
Well I have tried to get the fluid changed at a couple different garages (in addition to the dealer). Both times they get it up on the hoist and see its sealed then send me on my way. I'm trying to give them money but they say they can't. Nothing in my manual even says to change the fluid; just says to check the level.

My Aveo has a drain plug on the trans pan...it just doesn't get any easier than that. Needed or not needed, I am the one who will be paying for the new transmission so I say change it. Not sure what the 2006 uses for fluid specs min uses a T type fluid, I obtained the Amsoil equivalent so far no problems....

Not sure about the manual fluid but a good alternative for the automatic trans fluid that I have used is Mobil 3309.
3309 is a synthetic blend correct that meets the T spec ? I use the Mobile synthetic ATF in my Cavalier it's been fine at 227,000 KM now. The Aveo because it does not shift in the the winter up here..I went to the Amsoil Multi-vehical ATF, ATF-1G and they tell me will not have any issues with meeting warranty requirements. My Cavalier is all Mobile and the Aveo is all Amsoil. Gm wanted I think 13 bucks a liter for their 88900925 and it's not even a synthetic fluid.
Around here buying the Valvoline gallon size is the most economical way to go.Quote:
