my swift+S is 2004, so its 4 years old now and im close to 40 000KM, i know the timing belt should be changed at 100 000KM or 60 000miles, but is there a time limit on it, caz you know how for the oil it says X number of km or X number of months which ever comes first, is there a X number of months for the timing belt?

There is no set time that the belt will fall apart. I would inspect it for cracks and excessive wear.
If you get your oil changes done at the dealer, they will inspect it at your 50,000 km service.
How easy is the inspection? If you are going to the trouble to take things apart to inspect, why not just replace it why you are there? As for the lifespan, I think it is a well known fact that exceeding the recommended interval can lead to catastophic damage, just ask b1rdbrain.
the inspection should just be pulling the top cover on the side of the engine. not too hard, and you just mark the belt and turn the engine over until you have seen the whole thing (inspect it while it is not turning)
i do my own oil changes, so the dealer will not inspect my belt, hell i will will proly replace it my self when the time comes.

Inspection and replacement are 2 totally different things. Ask the dealer next time you go the average time to replace a timing belt. Then ask the average time to take off the timing cover.Originally Posted by AveoRob

I would not trust the dealer on the timing belt inspection only cuz this had happen to me. I would ask to see the belt durring the inspection.
