      Timing belt

Does anyone know on average how much it will cost to get my timing belt replaced? And also what is the best way to tell if the belt is going bad?

There's a lot of variables unknown here:

How many miles on the car? Belt should be changed around every 60K. There is NO inspection for it, just replace it - or it will destroy your valvetrain.

What year is the car? Parts may have changed year to year.

Where are you? I do car repair as a side business for $25/hr - I have no idea what the going rate is where you are; Pennsylvania's a pretty big state, probably some variation in labor costs.

That said, I could probably do the work for under 300 parts and labor - assuming no other items have failed. That's using quality parts, not whatever can be found the cheapest on the interwebs....

I have an 2006 Chevy aveo, when I bought it it had 106,000 miles, now it has 123,000 miles, I'm about 20 miles from reading Pa. When I look at it it looks fine, but since it has so many miles and I'm not sure when it was last replaced I just wanted to make sure I replace it before it becomes a problem

That would be advisable - assuming the prior owner did the work at the proper interval, you're now overdue - and living dangerously.

I bought an 04 that someone hadn't paid attention to - I got to put 16 new valves in it along with guides, on top of the timing belt....
