Pre-aveo I have had nothing but manual/stick drive. Automatics just seem soooo boring to drive. Life without a clutch & stick...yee gads, don't want to think about it!! My "Cosmos" (aveo's name) has manual/stick and we love cruising the back roads (well, within reason...I'm not 16 anymore...)

04 Hatchback Automatic, I didn't buy it for the trans. Drive manual or auto without worry. Been driving a 88 Grand Am coupe with 5spd manual and 89 5th Avenue with auto. This Aveo is my first 21st century car.

Manual's nice when the engine isn't all that powerful...

I asked for the manual option when I bought my Aveo new, because you're only going to get so much power out of a 1.6L engine. It's saved my bacon a few times when I had to near redline to get up to speed in a hurry. And in some cities I've passed through like LA, it would have sucked to have an automatic getting onto the interstate. I think the newer small cars with auto have paddle shifters for that particular problem, like the Honda Fit.

That said, if I were getting a car with a powerful engine, I'd definitely go with an automatic, just because I hate driving a stick in stop and go traffic. Luckily I don't do that too much where I live.

04 Hatchback Blue 5 speed manual. I DID buy it for the transmission. Got a great deal because I bought it from a fenced in dealer down in the hood. For some reason, a manual aveo wasn't moving very well amongst their inventory of Yukons on 22's and a wide variety of Cadillacs.

I always liked the Aisin automatics used in GM cars like the Cadillac XTS, Corvette, etc. So when I came across a 2011 Aveo automatic (Aisin 80-40LE) with only 9,000km, I grabbed it without even a test drive. The Aisins are REALLY nice, durable, snappy automatics, whether 4-spd or 8-spd.

Well found, Joseph! I recently sold my 2011 AVEO Auto, it had only 9,184km on it! See my Garage page for full history.

I can't drive stick (wish I could) because of a medical condition. My dream car is a stick shift though.
