Oooops... Little long on the last oil change.

Yikes. I changed the oil on the Aveo yesterday. I'm glad I did, I didn't realize untill I looked into my maintinence log that I'd gone 8k miles since the last change back in June The oil that came out was thin as hell. Even almost water like.

To the point of being worried about possible coolant in the oil, but there's absolutely no other sign of such a catastrophy.. but.. I'm just keeping a close eye on things right now.

Otherwise pretty happy to be at 4 years and 85k miles running just like new.

(this is a new screenname - was Monzaveo)

      '06 svm, added cruise.

I wouldn't be worried about 8k, as long as there was oil in it, it should be fine

Coolant mixed with oil generally looks milky.

ok I have queston if my car has 57k can I use AMSOIL or MOBILE1 ECT. Was told that it was ok by the makers of synthetic oil makers to use it but heard it was not because of cleaning agents will make engine leak?

You'll be fine. I have yet to see proof that synthetic oils cause seals and gaskets to leak. They would sweat a little but not leak, and that's for engines with A LOT of miles on it.

I'm guessing someone tossed some synthetic in their 100 year old model t and a gasket went out :P

This probably got started due to materials used in older cars... so "I switched to synthetic at 250k miles and the main seal in my 1965 mustang started leaking" ... Older/different materials with a high age might react funny to the detergents, but I doubt any modern (1980+) car is going to have an issue

even the 1980's toyotas would probably start leaking if the synthetic oil was put in at a higher mileage..

i would say anything with a mls head gasket, and/or produced after synthetic oil became more norm, would be fine to run.
only thing i would say is still do your first or second oil changes in a regular oil or sooner interval, just incase it freed up some sludge in there. then depending on how the first run of synthetic looks when it comes out, run it longer. if it brings old sludge out with it, run it a short time
      again.

I use Amsoil and have since the 50,000 mile mark. My car now has 85,000 and doesn't leak or use any oil. I have had it new (5miles on it when I bought it). I have to say I really like mine. 2005 sedan special value model
