How do you measure piston ring clearance?
The specs say .008 inches per inch of bore or .008 mm per mm of bore
Bore size is 86 mm or 3.386 inches
I bought a feeler gauge that reads .008
I know the procedure you need to do, its the actual measurement im not sure about, just gap the ring at .008? Or do i have to multiply .008 x 3.386 which gives .027 inches? (.008 x 86 mm = .068 mm)
.008 seems awefully small to me!
what materials are they? since your going turbo i would say .027 sounds about right for stainless, maybe a little tighter on cast iron..
the top ring is usually a little tighter than the bottom as well, but you could tighten them both since you are turbo.
or did you just want to know if you multiply?
It's the stock rings i bought with the new pistons im putting in.
The paper says to gap the rings at minimum .003 inch and maximum .008 inch per inch of bore, that confuses me!
I just went out and measured the gap on the old rings as they were not damaged.
The gap is .008 on the old rings. So .027 would be way too much.
Im gonna gap the new ones at .008"
