Manifold shield?
Hi everyone.
been enjoying all the postings and finally have a good one...i think.
Recently, because the alternator finally died...at 219K miles...I popped the hood for a jumped...which while it did start the car, it would not stay on...and finally saw what had being causing a weird clunking noise.
For lack of not knowing what to call it (what is it called by the way?!), it was the 'aluminum(?) shield that normally covers the 4 exhaust 'pipes' in the front of the engine. I looks like it rusted through where it bolts onto the engine block and so it fell right off...in between the engine block and the fan.
So, questions:
what is that thing called?
does the Aveo really need it?
if needed, where would I get a replacement?
thank you!

Its an exhaust manifold heat shield. Part number is 96350821 for the 2004-2008 Aveos.
Do you really need it? Depends. Theres no heatshields on the engine in my Jeep or Corvette, but some engineer at some time decided to put one in an Aveo.

thank you Slayeried6.
just looked it up and it's only $65. That car is worth it. given its location...right in front of the fan...it probably helps keep the air that gets blown back at the engine relatively cool. and a cool engine down here in land of the swampy gators probably would not be a bad idea.
thanks again!

2009-2011 Heat Shield part number is 25195633 and that heat shield is VERY needed on the 2009-2011, because of the 1200 degree maniverter underneath it.

2010AveoLT, thanks for the reply. the 'silver bullet'...it's what i call the little car...is a 2006 model. I looked up the part number you gave me and it doesn't look like mine. Mine has only one (rusted through) hole on the bottom and two at the top. I believe Slayeried6 provided the correct part number as when I look that one up, it does look like mine. And, after a bunch of thought, I am going to reattach the original. it should work with a couple of big washers and some aluminum sheeting cut into 2" squares with a hole. take care & ride on!
