Agreed, I'd just junk that body, an EG hatch is lighter anyways. Check w/ your local junk yard and see if you can trade the car for a civic that needs less work and just swap that motor. If you can find one that's been wrecked in the front w/ a straight frame you've got all kinds of possibilitlies: Z3 Fenders w/ JDM sI clip would only run you about a grand...less if you find it used. Check craigslist.

You can not commit crimes in a Aveo. Its just not fast enough.

Its more fun to drive a slow car fast, rather than drive a fast car slow!

I have had a little experience with rust situations like that... my last project car was a 92 geo metro convertible(yeah, yeah I keep going on about it) bought it for $1000 with rusty rocker panels, though not quite as bad as yours. A local welder who worked for $40 an hour patched them up butt good in 4 hours, and after a maaco paint job it looked great, for a geo anyway.

The biggest thing you need to worry about is whether the rust has affected the unibody, structurally. If yes, then welding on sheet metal is the only answer. If no, then fiberglass and bondo is an option, if you really know what you're doing. Try asking a body shop what would be best, them ask a local welder about his rates. It should work out okay..

The car is finaly road legal, work will start next week

we went out tonight to teach the my buddy (owner) how to drive stick, and i have to say out of all people he is the most hopeless. stalled 12 times in 2 hours, and at the end we lost power steering, so i said thats it for the night.

now on top of everything we have no PS
