I picked up my 04' Aveo LS 1.6L Manual about six months back for $4,000 USD from a Chevrolet Dealer, it has just over 60,000 miles on it at the time. What do you guys think, did I get a decent deal on it?

I just picked up a 2011 Aveo LT sedan for 2500 bucks. It has 92k miles on it and is in fair shape. It does have a check engine light on though, and the code says something about a crankshaft position sensor..oh boy. It runs good typically then will just start running real rough then stall. Of course on the 60 mile trip home from where i bought it, it ran fine. The next day it started this. I ordered a crankshaft sensor and now need to figure out where it goes.
2009 Chevy Aveo5 LT 1.6L 5Speed about 8 months ago
5000 USD
97,000 miles on it.
Just bought 2006 Aveo for 2450.00 with 65,000 miles from private seller. Timing belt and brakes had been replaced. Runs well, some electrical issues but the seller fixed this for me. Runs great!
After a lot of research and lurking on this forum. I am picking up a 2010 Aveo, with 99,000 miles, today for $3000.
2004 Aveo Sedan
83K
$600
Everything mint except for cylinder #2... need to repair low compression. Also passenger front wheel bearing is starting to growl.
I bought my 2008 aveo5 from a chevy dealer for 4500 on a loan in order to build my credit and with minimum payments of 130. It had 72,000 miles brake pads were at 4mm c.v axle boot torn and needed a new clutch. They were asking for 7500 but I wasn't going to pay that. I like this little car working at a shop I get to learn about cars by working on mine and other.
I got my 2008 Aveo5 for $1500.00 with 117000 miles on it. Had the original timing belt in it and a pull to the right. Changed the timing belt and the bits and pieces that came in the kit, put a new thermostat and housing in it and got an alignment. What great little car! (sorry, Mopar...) Too bad I bought it for my 16 yo daughter. She adopted it before I could put a wrench on it. Now I gotta go looking for one of my own!
I bought my 2004 Aveo in august of 2016 for $1800. Its a hatchback 5spd with AC. 70k miles on the clock when I bought it, Florida car with no rust.
I may be selling mine soon. I'll tell you it does have a problem. It runs fine then runs rough. New Heads new belt timing belt new water pump new sensors. I'm going to change the catalytic converter and if it is not the problem and it still runs rough I'm selling the Aveo. Only 85000 miles. I'm giving it one more chance.
Is it throwing any codes? I wouldn't think the catalytic converter would cause it to run rough unless it was plugged, but then you could check that by disconnecting if you're planning on ordering one anyways.
What kind of rough? Does it lope or does it sound inconsistent? These engines have a tendency to lope because of the poorly designed engine mounts and it being transaxle. So if it is a lope, I wouldn't worry about it..
If it sounds like it's stumbling and inconsistent, it can be very hard to diagnose. What makes you think it's the catalytic converter? Does it fall on its face during acceleration? Have you checked the intake gasket? I had a jeep once with this problem and it turned out to be a burnt exhaust valve. This was after checking absolutely everything, including every sensor, valve lifters, replacing the converter, etc. It was incredibly frustrating.
I wish you luck.
I acts up once it get to operating temp. engine starts vibrating, shaking no power, etc. check engine light comes on and flashes.
a friend resets it, wait for the engine to cool down and we're back to square one. I replaced the water pump, all the head and exhaust seals, timing belt, coil pack, plug wires and battery.
I figure the Cat is heating up, causing backpressure, heat, then things start goin south.
how do I test the Cat and can I do something meantime to both ease backpressure and trick the o2 sensor so I can drive it further than 5 miles? what tools? where do I hook them up? etc... methods to for sure nail this down.
the gaskets on top, intake, valve cover are also new.
when I turn the car off there is a hiss then it stops.
I'm new to Aveo after I found a 2011 Aveo with only 10,100km. It still has the new car smell. Paid C$5800 (about UAS$4300). Seemed like a good price for a near-new car, and it has a proper 4-spd automatic, not a CVT like so many small cars these days.
i bought my 05 Aveo for 500 in Aug of this year, it had 128k miles on it. i got it for a steal, the car kept on skipping (taking in to much air) and the old owner had no idea way thought the motor was going. There was this massive hole in the intake air hose could not have missed it 30 bucks and car runs good as new.
I got mine for 200$ it's an 04 and have 178k miles . had a blown head gasket fixed it my self and she runs like new!Attachment 10919Attachment 10920Attachment 10921Attachment 10922
Nice! That's practically for scrap value!
I've just been starting to see a few "cheap" Aveo deals in my neck of the woods - nothing like that though.
I got my 2005 about 4 months ago for $2k. It had about 130K miles, and the only thing wrong is the washer pump does not work. Great car to make my 90 minute commute!
I paid 900$ for my 09 Aveo. 83k miles and in need of a trannys due to speed sensor issues
2007, black auto. 1.4
61,000 miles.
Rust on roof, bad paint,
One window not working.
Boot not opening.
£600
Needed something quick to use as a runabout.
Quite happy with it, tbh. Has been working great until today.
150:00 pounds
2009 1.2 65,000 mile
but needs a mot and 5th gear sorting out, just trying to find a cheap gearbox
Wait.... 150 pounds? :D
hi metrompg
i did purchase the car from a friend tho
the car just sat there and they was going scrap it
Well, that's a great deal if you can replace the transmission yourself. (Or fix it... isn't the 5th gearset under a stamped steel cover on the outside of the case?)
hi
not sure im not a mechanic i was just going buy a gearbox and try and fit it
i was going to get it through a mot and if the car didn't need to much money to pass it ,i would then fit it with gearbox
Just bought another Aveo. 2004, 36k miles, auto trans, manual windows/locks/mirrors...$2300.
I paid my sister's estate $500.00
Please include:
Year 2007 Aveo 5 Hatchback LS
85,000 Miles
I bought it from my sister's estate and it is in pretty good shape. Door lock fell in, gas lick is broken and I changed now door is stuck. Replaced the air hose, valve cover gasket, front brakes and totirz, o2 sensors. Still needs tires exhaust and timing belt changed. Overall it is a great little car and my son gets his permit in 2 years and this car is for him. He's learning how to work on cars and I'm getting free labor.
Dang, Aveo's are going for too much in my area....
I bought my 2005 Aveo LS a few days ago for $450. It has a bit over 170,000 kilometers. I bought it from an older woman who had a book with all the service history on everything she had done to the car since she bought it in 2008, She had taken absolutely beautiful care of it.
Just bought one this past weekend. 2007 Chevrolet Aveo LS with 149,000 miles. $1900 (missing spare, A/C doesn't work, cracked right door mirror, terrible rust on hood, only one key). You have to prop the hood up with a piece of 2x4 because the piece under the hood that the metal prop rod fit into (once upon a time) is missing.
TweetyBird yellow, pinstripes (maybe red?), 5-speed manual with a spoiler. My 19-yo son loves it! LOL
P.S. Local salvage yard has a new compact 14x4 spare for $25.00; my son is on his way to go pick it up.
11/2016 - 2008 Aveo5 LS 113,000 miles - $1500.00
I'm the third owner, and it was pretty well maintained.
All I had to do to it was a timing belt kit (the first ever!) and a bath.
Fell in love with it, but sadly handing it over to my 16 year old daughter next month.
So I bought one for myself...
06/2016 - 2009 Aveo5 LT 85,000 miles - $2500.00
I'm the second owner and unfortunately "inherited" the first owner's deferred maintenance items.
Replaced the flex pipe, ignition coil pack, spark plugs, front brakes and rotors, and rear brake drums.
I swapped the 14" steel wheels to the 2008 and bought her a fresh set of tires and aftermarket wheel covers.
I kept the 15" alloy wheels for mine so I could upsize the tires when the time comes.
Then I added the $38.00 cruise control (thanks, forum!)
I put about another $1000.00 into the 2009 (including the new tires for the 2008, but I still think that it's a sweet little ride for $3500.00. And with the exception of a timing belt before the snow flies, it's not going to need anything other than regular maintenance for quite a while.
Looking for a 2011-2012 for the wife now.
I think I might have a problem... ;)
Congrats, CDOwl!
That's a great trick, isn't it? :DQuote:

There's something to be said for sticking with what you know.Quote:

2011 Aveo5 with 80,000 miles. $5400 June '17
Hello, Im from france.
Got mine last year for 4750€ with 30 000km
It's a 2011 AVEO LS GPLI 1.2L (LPG factory installed) .
Paint was not excellent, but everything else is great.
LPG is considered as a eco friendly in France, so its gets a lot of advantage interms of taxe and LPG is cheap.
I get 500 km out a of a 23 € fill of LPG when driving on eco drive.
In sport mode (I stay above 4000rpm) I get 400km.
Of course I also have the gasoline tank, which adds more autonomy to the car.
Only thing missing is cruise control, seems with the 1.2L engine, it's not possible to use the legendary hack this forum proposed.
Hopefully someone will find out a way. 🤣

£2.900 2013 Aveo 1.4 with 60k on clock from a Auction
I got a 2005 Aveo sedan with 176,000 km on it for $450, It needed lots of love : rockers, exhaust, tires and a wheel bearing but its a happy little car now :p
$450 nice score!
I take it you did the work yourself?
I know people who live in Nova Scotia - the annual (semi-annual) inspection is pretty strict as far as rust goes. A lot of cars I see on the road here would never pass there.
