I have an 05 and it's got about 112,000 on it...
for my first standard car im hitting 80,000 miles on the original clutch :-D
On my way to 200K, just hit 118000!
Its just slowly falling apart, im pretty much rebuilding it as I go, piece by piece. since my last post, when car was at 134,200 miles, I replaced the timing belt, both idler pulleys, and water pump. Bearings in both idlers were almost shot, and water pump housing was covered in rust. While removing the intake box and hose, the hose fell apart so I ordered an AEM cai (should arrive any day now). In the next few weeks, It will hit 135,000 miles.
I just hit 187k. Original motor blew at 183k . Never changed timing belt ha. Got a newer motor with 12k in it now!!!should be good for another 150k
How the heck can you people rack up 150 000 miles on a 6 year old or less car??? :O thats insane! Do you sleep in there or what...
Even if i take my car everyday 150 000 miles takes me 10-12 years to do.
I have around 83 000 miles on the body of my 2004... its going to be 7 years old in April 2011
Thats less then 1/2 of what some people have lol
Updating this number - I'm now at 102,000 miles and I plan to try and get rid of this car tomorrow. Absolutely no way I'm dealing with any future maintenance. Somehow this car lasted this long, and I do not know how! With the amount of horror stories I've read on here and other places on the web, I'm not walking away from this car, I'm RUNNING! Mazda, here I come!
Don't blame you. I'm gonna run away from it when my lease is up in August. GM already put $2000 in it, I sure as hell am not going to continue down that road.
Sorry to continue my rant, but even though this car is a Daewoo, myself and my family have now sworn off Chevy for life. Any time I see one of their newer vehicles, it immediately reminds me of the Aveo. That bad!
cwilliams. 102k miles and you believe some of the stories on here about 60k mile timing belt brakes, and plastic tstat housing failures, etc.
your past all that. why believe the hype? if all the owners without problems would talk as much as the people with problems then the fact you made it to 102k miles should prove to you otherwise.
the aveo is built like a "throw away" car 102k out of a $10k means you paid less than $.10 a mile.. ive owned car that were much more money that ive ran away from because of issues with much less miles.
I've had the timing belt problem, but it was unfortunately caused by myself and a moment of stupidity. I'm sure if I would not have read up on this car that I would have lost the entire engine before I had a chance to do the maintenance, which ultimately cost over $2000 in repairs anyways. Oh well, done with this car anyways :)
2007 with 11 000 miles on it... :P
An ex-coworker put 100 000 miles on his first brand new car in his first year of ownership..... and he was living where he worked (hotel owned by his family) so all that traveling wasn't work related!
I just reached 130,000 miles on my 2005. I bought it new in March 2005 for $8500.00. I have replaced front wheel bearings twice, done the brakes once, hit a deer (the deer hit me actually), and had the front right control arm replaced. I had the timing belt replaced at 74,000 miles. The car is running great and everything works. It is starting to show signs of wear and I know I need to put some more money in it soon but it has been a great little car for work commutes.
My car hit 100,000 on thanksgiving morning and I currently have 105,659 and I just replaced the struts and The driver side CV Halfshaft. Currently going to fix the Passenger Control Arm.
My 2004 aveo hit 195k miles, still on the original engine and clutch. It's on the fourth timing belt though.
I hope mine makes it that far I would be lucky.
My 04 I purchased with the teeth stripped off the timing belt. It bent all 8 exhaust valves. Didn't touch the intakes, don't know how it managed to miss them. Repleaced the valves, the head gasket set, the belt, the tensioner, the idler, the waterpump, the sepentine belt, and had to replace the drivers side inner tie rod because it was bent when it was towed before I bought it. Car had 67,719 on purchase. Registered it the 1st of march and it now has 68,020 Oh, and the radio has no sound coming out of it.
The aveo I seen with the most miles on it was an 08 with 349,136 I actually called the dealer and it wasn't a typo. That is the miles on it. I copied and pasted the ad below.

I have 75,500 Miles or 121,500KM. I'm on my second timing belt, second set of front brake pads and rotors, had to change my thermostat housing, spark plugs, wires and my crankshaft position sensor. Oh and my horn just broke today.... but thats it, doesn't seem too bad so far, I love the stupid little thing.....
I have 125,xxx miles on my aveo and this car sucks. By the way, it is a 2006.
Will never buy a Chevy again. My engine light keeps coming on. I have replaced the throttle body 4xs, injectors and the catalytic converter. The engine light says is is misfiring and the air bag light is stuck on. About the 5th start the engine light goes off, then it goes back on. Did the timing belt and all a few months ago.
Mine is sometimes a pain but I know That I have to treat it a little better than my parents did. First off these cars are not hot rods they will not do 100 MPH all the time and expect them to perform like a new car no way. Treat the car like a child I baby my car I change my oil every 3,000 miles next time I have to change the Drain Plug. I still use it on a Paper route along as I don't put Exxon or Shell gas in it the car will be fine. Hopefully Walmart DC in Brookhaven, Ms will hire me and I can take this car back and forth to work. And Probably down the road I will buy the Chevrolet Sonic or just Buy a 2012 Chevrolet Aveo Classic. Screw Consumer Reports they don't know a thing about cars.
This. I was pretty abusive with my cars including the Aveo, but I started being more careful about half way through owning this one. I learned to accept the simple fact that the biggest impact on my car's reliability was ME.
While I won't argue that the Aveo is the best most awesome car in the world, it's definitely a good, simple little car that does the job it was made for.
i'm not saying its the best car either, but for it being the cheapest car in the us (it really is).
BUT< It is an amazing car for what you pay.
And i am probably more abusive than most, and this car only failed on me twice in @ 30k miles. I've paid 4x as much for cars that ended with a break down/dealer visit average every 2k miles.
Bought my 04 at 190 000 km with busted timing belt. Replaced the bent exhaust valves. Now it's at 270 000 km.
I gues its time for a timing belt.
Got a 06' LS sedan, auto/air, with 198,000 km on it. It's been a great little trouble free ride.
I agree 100% Rabbit.
It's cool to see so many people with reliable high mileage Aveos!
It was the dang dealer who replaced everything. It was independent mechanic who told me about the misfiring thing. One day it lost throttle power and that is when the dealer kept it and said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Its a good car when the engine light isn't on. I commute 120 miles a day 5 days a week. I guess all in all it has been good but not powerful enough to get out of someones way only when the engine light is on. Replace things and it runs great for a few days and then loses some power.
Thanks for the tips on the coil wire or wires. I will check it out. Any other help will be greatly appreciated.
I do the whole mtc thing.
ive past 175,000km just last week. last thing that was fixed was the plastic t-stat housing. (plastic. yay). got it replaced with a cast metal one by goodwrench. a few weeks later i found that it was *defective*, leaking coolant, but goodwrench fixed it at no-charge. they made good. im happy.
on my 2nd timing belt. still original plugs, wires, brakes... hmm.... i should get those replaced, soon.
car still stalls when the temp is -20 C or lower after 1/2 hour of driving. that was supposed to be fixed two years ago, but that's ok. there are plenty of shoulders on my commute.
still runs good. no real problems.
Get the plugs and wires changed and the stalling problem might stop. The plugs have excessive gap after 50 000km. Change for platinum and don't worry about them for another 160 000km.
Yeah I took the original plugs out at 50 000km and measured gap and it was excessive (out of spec). You could just re-gap them and make them last another 30 000 km... but while you're at it you might as well put platinum in or iridium, and forget about them for a long while.
I've clocked in 159K on my '05. I drive it hard but religiously follow the maintenance schedule. My sister had an '04, babied it, and blew her motor under 60K.
I have 138 k miles and mine is a 2007
only 53000 miles on my 2007, only about 3000 miles for the past year or so :)
the cheap seats? why are they cheap? because they arent made by lazy boy like the rest of GM?
i know they aren't perfect. but everyone has a different feeling.. i like they are still firm, but cushioned.
cheap seats to me are like the apc racing seats, its like your sitting on a leather covered board.
good seats are recaros..
That's why I actually called the dealer to verify the mileage, when he told me it was in fact 349 thousand + on it and then asked me if I was still interesed I actually couldn't help myself from laughing as I said no. I seriously thought there was a decimal point missing and that the picture was probably not showing some body damage on the other side or something along those lines if it was an 08 with 34ooo at that price.
