What are the common problems of the Aveo? What should I expect or is it pretty much a really good reliable car?
At 60k miles I have replaced so far:
Timing belt and tensioner (standard maintenance, $160)
serpentine belt and tensioner (standard maintenance, $160)
Thermostat (which wasn't needed, $25)
Waterpump (replaced under warranty)
Upstream o2 sensor (Ran over a bag of yard debris that fell off a pickup, $75)
Need to get a new window crank... the knob fell off :(
This is an '04...
To date if had repairs on:
The hood latch alarm sensor (twice under warranty)
like 3 recalls on the throttle body to prevent the possibility of freezing(free under warrenty)
the clutch master cylinder (Warrantied)
My car is an '05
Front Tire - Bulge
Windshield - Crack
Front Drivers Side Headlight let moisture in - Covered under Warranty
'06 - 30 000 km
ice on the map sensor-warranty
back left tire, hole in it-$82
heater core-warranty
my car is an '08
07 Aveo5 SVM, dealer replaced the EVAP Control Purge Solenoid under warranty.
Clock
Hood Latch
Throttle body sensor
Hood pin for alarm
Rear speaker
Alternator (bearings were about to fail, replaced before they did)
cooling fan resistor and fuse
rear wheel bearing.
As of now, 38 000 km on it.
less then advertised fuel mileage...other then that I haven't had any problems with my '06 hatch.
You shouldn't have issues with the TB/PCV valve recalls, they redesigned it in 06 when they went to throttle-by-wire. I've done the TB coolant bypass like the XD for 2 winters now with no problems.
Some 06's had a bad batch of ECUs from Siemens that shut down below ~-15 oC. They mostly made it into Suzuki Renos but a few Swift/Aveos got them, like mine. Replaced under warranty.
Otherwise no other problems so far.
