First of I'm new here. Just wanted to know if I made the right choice when I decided to buy a Goodyear Gatorback timing belt. I've had good history with them as belts for other cars to the point that's all I'll put on them. So how for those of you who put them on has it paid off and was worth the extra coin?
For our cars it's not the belt that fails, it's either the tensioner or idler pulley. They fail a while before the belt would have, so it doesn't make much of a difference which belt is used.
the Gatorback is definitely a nice belt. But as said, there are other things that fail too, AND the service interval must still be followed.
I can't say I have personally seen any belt out perform another based on brand, etc. But when it comes to a timing belt versus a seep belt or fan belt, you definitely want to run what you are comfortable with, if the few extra dollars gives you the confidence it will be 60k miles until the next service versus possible breakage at 59000 miles then it is worth it.
In the case of the Aveo I'm working if you held the belts next to each other and stretch them out the old one was 3 inches longer.
On the 3 belts that I've done, the new and old were EXACTLY the same size - no stretch of the old belt whatsoever. You might want to check the part number on the new belt itself to make aure it's the correct one for this aveo. If it is correct, I'd be more than curious to know how that engine was running with a belt 3 inches longer than the spec.Quote:
