Funny Little Thing That I Found

I was looking online to find out how to remove numbers from my Onstar unit. This was the first thing that I cliked on, because it caught my attention. I'm so glad I did, because I have NEVER EVER before in my whole f**kin' life laughed so hard like I did when I read this! Some people are paranoid little s**ts, aren't they?

      http://whats.all.this.brouhaha.com/2...15/onstar-off/

EDIT: In all seriousness, I do understand this guy's concerns. But come on, the government already does this crap with computers with internet access, land lines, & cell phones. But this guy acts like he just let some big cat out of the bag with this revelation. I'm gonna go ahead & do my best Bill Engvall impression here. Mr. Eric, here's your sign. You are very welcome.

When my aveo broke down i hit my onstar button.. when the girl answered i asked her if the police shut off my car.
really confused she asked me if there were police behind me. I told her i would know in a minute since i wasn't moving anymore.

i made her wait there for like 30 seconds, and then suggested it must not be the cops, and asked if i can get a tow.

Now that is mighty funny. How did you do this with a straight face and not laughing?

Wow is all I can say about that article. Oh and why would the onstar cell phone be SIM'd? I'd put my money on it being a SIM free set up like USCellular. Or atleast hardwired SIM and not easily changed.

GSM has a world wide market so it make sense that they would use a GSM cell based technology if you would want to sell cars outside of the US.

Having read through the article, I think that having a user provided SIM is not a bad idea. At least it would be linked to your accounts. That option would limit the sales of OnStar service.

Power is knowledge and let the ignorant be exploited. I am not surprised that FBI exploited the OnStar. In our new Digital Domain, personal privacy is a thing of the past. Hell! No telling what that "innocent" app is doing on your android phone. It could be just waiting idle or reporting your GPS position and phone state every 10 minutes.

Our personal Privacy is thing of the past, now the only thing possible is to limit the collateral damage. Or, slow down the bleeding of information.

Hey, back in the 80's, I was wearing a badge, up above Seattle. I was patrolling back on the fire roads, as we had actually had some rustling going on. Yes, I said rustling. Some local farmers were missing cattle, and we were finding cattle parts back in these secluded areas. They were being rustled, and then butchered back in there. Alas, I digress... while back there, I saw a little import car rocking, normally I could tell you what make, but what I saw flushed all memory of the car from my mind. You couple, college kids, windows fogged, car rocking as they were in the passenger seat, and she was "playing horsey". hehehe. Well, I really did not want to leave them back there, as it was not safe, and I really did not want to sit there and guard them while she finished her ride... so I tapped on the window with my flashlight, identified myself, told them I wanted their id's, wanted them to get dressed, and out of the car. She was fine. I verified their id's, and that neither of them was wanted (at the time, we had a killer on the I-5 corridor, above and below Seattle), and gave them a little talking to. I told the boy that while they were of legal age, they were not allowed to be where they were, because it was restricted. Then I suggest he might check out the local motel, or a buddies house, and wished them a nice evening. Ya never know what you are going to find going on in a parked vehicle, or even a moving one for that matter.

As a side funny, is anyone here old enough to remember "Kentucky Fried Movie"? They had a funny scene where a couple were making out on the sofa, in front of the tv... and then you saw the whole news crew crowding together on the screen, watching the couple. Pretty funny at the time.

Well, if it isn't the FBI hacking the systems, whether or not they get permission from anyone to do it, there are people besides the FBI that are smart enough and good enough with a computer to hack Onstar and listen to your conversations. But I gotta ask; was it smart for that guy to just go and unhook that fuse? Even if it was just for the Onstar? I mean, the FBI has other methods of doing this kind of stuff if they really want to eavesdrop on you, or find out your location. I remember this article that I saw months ago where this kid took his car to a shop, and the mechanic found this little device under the car, which turned out to be a GPS tracking system. The kid took pics of him with the device and posted them on facebook. Not too long after that, the FBI came knocking. Apparently it was THEIR toy, and they wanted their toy back. But they wouldn't acknowledge that it was theirs.

Here's that article: Caught Spying on Student, FBI Demands GPS Tracker Back | Threat Level | Wired.com
